about the peelsessions: is that really worth getting? Ever since 'alive in japan'... i've kind of lost my interest in electronic artists performing live.
I mean: it probably works if you're actually there at the time, but to release it on a cd seems a bit pointless.
So unless BOC made some radical changes in their songs for the peelsession, i probably won't be buying that one.

peel sessions isn't that great, worth d/l but not buying... get hi scores, it a great ep and contains the track 'everything you do is a balloon', which by itself would almost be good enough for me

the peel sessions is like... 4 tracks you get with any other album, and not even really changed
not worth it

the peel sessions japanese import thingy is quite nice. it contains ae's first peel sessions as well as boc's and black dog's. it was on sale a while ago at warprecords.com.

hm... verdorie :-p
Well plato wouldn't be much of a recordstore if they only have one copy of it. I'm sure there'll be another one on friday ;-) I'm not too keen on velvet... their electronica-section is usually not so great. But i can have a look ofcourse. The nice thing about leiden is all the good musicstores are very close to each other.

But hi scores is not easy to find or is it? I've never seen it in any store...
I think i'll pass on the peelsessions. "and not even really changed"... that's what i was afraid of.

yeah, the only real reason to get it was if you were like a obsessive fan that has to own every release ever done by them.
hi scores is alittle tricky to find. ive only seen it one place so far, and i bought it of course!

hm okay... that's not bad (altough i already bought gantz graf from plato :-p). But any record-store that stocks gantz graf is at least worth checking out i guess.
I was actually quite surprised by the Aphex Twin-section in my local Free Record Shop (!). They had almost everything (well, not the really rare stuff (sadly) but all the albums + lots of ep's... maybe one of the employees is a fan or something :-p). Not that i like shopping at FRS... not with their prices :-S

they have analogue bubblebath 3, i believe, at velvet! but i also saw that one at van leest in the haarlemmerstraat (that was a major shock). a bit pricy, though (18 euros).
it's always smart to check out the shabby stores every now and then

I'm trying not to develop any new obsessions anymore ;-) (there are too many as it is!) I'll keep my eyes open for hi scores, but other than that, i'll be happy when i get geogaddi + beautiful place.
Instead of a peelsession-cd i'll listen to once or maybe twice, i'd rather buy something i'll actually enjoy :-D

indeed... i actually started my Aphex Twin-collection in a free record shop :-D One of those really small ones at a trainstation even (in r'dam i think)... they had SAW 85-92 in the bargain-basket.
Was also my first idm-cd... so you could say my entire electronic music-obsession stems from FRS ;-)

It has to do with the fact that if you like BoC so much, you should have/like BDP - Bytes.
I don't care what anyone says, but that album is ahead of anything by BoC.

i almost never trust those online-stores... except the big ones.
But anyway... i think i should probably get all their "regular" releases first, before i start searching for rarites. It'll make me appreciate the rarites more, if i eventually get them ;-)
Or maybe hi scores will get a rerelease as well :-D

dont worry! ALL their stuff offers this 'undefinable magic' that you refer too...
geogaddi has it for sure, as does the beautiful place ep!
even if you dont love them as much as MHTRTC, it will not be possible for you to be dissapointed... you'll just love them equally, but maybe in different ways
they will all be special, just like your children! .....which music has the right to, of course.....

'In A Beautiful Place..' was weak I thought. 'kid for today' and 'zoetrope' kick.. the rest.. err.. 'Amo Bishop Roden' is lovely for the first zillion minutes and then yr like.. okay, I've heard this little loop a hundred times. I can barely stand the title track anymore.. a shame since I used to like it.

Yeah, Ed and Andy were part of BlackDog. Bytes was a side project during the late 80's and very early 90's while they were trying to jumpstart Plaid.
They also worked with Ken Downey, whom is still releasing material under 'The Black Dog.' Ed and Andy left Black Dog in 95' after Spanners was completed.

Well hello, I'm back from a couple of days in hell. Hm, to be honest they were just normal days, but I lost my internet-connection! (the horror... the horror...). Not having acces to the internet made me realise how much of an addict i have become ;-)
Anyway, it feels like the nice people at the helpdesk have become close personal friends to me, because i talked to them ALOT. And finally... finally they were able to tell me to do the right things to "fix" the problem, and everything seems to be working just fine again... :-)

But at least it has given me plenty of time to listen to geogaddi! And listen to it alot i did. Maybe it was meant to be that my computer starting acting strange at this point in time, because my opinion after having heard the album 1 or 2 times was not positive at all. I could still tell it was BOC-music, but everything that i loved about mhtrtc seemed to have dissapeared.
But now that i've listened to the album many many times, it's all starting to grow on me. It is indeed a wonderful album, altough much darker than mhtrtc. I have to agree with zeus on this... if Music... was like a beautiful dream, than Geogaddi is like the nightmare you have the next night.
All the whispered voices and the sounds that are played backwards (sunshine recorder!!!!!!!) make the album sound very sinister.
Even "music is math"... which to me sounds most like 'the old' BoC (and was infact the only track i already liked the first time i heard it) sounds darker than anything on mhtrtc. Sometimes it's like i'm listening to a horrormovie-soundtrack ;-)
I also think everything sounds much more dense and layered... more complex... and also harder to get into. Songs like Dawn Chorus (awesome indeed mr ophecks) and Alpha And Omega are much more characteristic for the sound of this album than the mellow tracks i thought were BOC's speciality.
Well... i'm having a hard time really describing what it sounds like... but I am liking it! Also, parts of the music are sometimes starting to pop up in my thoughts (when i'm not listening to the album), just like they did with MHTRTC... and i like that alot. It makes me feel like the album is becoming a part of my life.

Also: yesterday I listened to Music Has the right... again, and I am glad to report it has lost nothing of it's magic :-D
I think this is mostly because Geogaddi is such a different album... it's nothing like "MHTRTC chapter 2"... and i guess that was what i was afraid of... that the albums would sound the same, therefor making my beloved Music... album sound less special. But in fact they are nothing (well not much) alike.
So no regrets! (phew)
