anyone here record with a minidisc player, like, from a
microphone? if so how does it sound and do you recomend a
certain player, or are there any specific features that i
should look for?

I can tell you what's wrong with it.

If a thread is available on the main page and when you click
it, the thread has been deleted it places you in kind of a
'buffer' that has a blank topic. When you reply it puts it
in a bad area of the database that for some reason gets
called on at a certain time and is appended to a new post. I
decided to post in one of those threads and see when it
popped up. Hey that didn't take long.

On the other hand I thought it would split my posts and
place them into different random topics. But apparently it
still considers all the posts to be one thread.

SO ANYWAY, how about them minidisc players?

From a microphone? WTF... hook it up to your computer and
copy it directly like you should.

If you are doing it for a concert... ehh the clarity is
reasonable but nothing exceptional.

well... i have both a portable player and a 'stationary'
player/recorder and i really like the format. but i still
have doubts about the future of minidiscs...

i think we're going more and more towards computer/hard
drive storage. with ipods and others already out there i'm
sure we will see more hifi components using the same
technique very soon... maybe there are some already?

concerts? sure, hadn't thought about it much. the main
reason i want a portable minidisc player is for sampling.
anyone sample with a mindisc player? i'm thinking about
environmental sounds and such. also i'd probably use it for
vocals. i have a microphone input on my coputer but
recording that way sounds horrible.

from what I've heard.. the recording quality of minidiscs
isn't very good..

mic?

it's not that bad, but still worse than record
something on a dat-recorder. but those machines are awfully
expensive...

actually, this evening i will record a little weird ensemble
(2 trombones. bassoon & guitar) with pretty good mic and a
MD. i'll report when i get back on the net.

is there an inexpensive alternative method of recording that
sounds better than md?

uhm, marantz recently put out a portable cd recorder which
can record directly. dunno how much that machine costs
though..
