Could anyone tell me how I might go about taking digital artwork I have on my computer and transferring (printing it?) on to real material? It doesn't matter what material in particular, what I'm interested in knowing is how I can take the digital image and print it out, but not just a standard piece of paper, you know? Okay, for example sake: let's say I have image1.jpg and I want to take that image and put it onto some white canvas cloth, how would I do this, if possible? Would I need some kind of special equipment, instead of a standard printer? I would like to make these print-outs quite large, and that's not possible with the basic printer.
I'm not that great at explaining things, so if you need me to try and explain it a different way, I'll try my best. But if it made sense, any help at all is greatly appreciated!

you should take that question to a copy-shop. But it sounds expensive!
There are also special sets of printer-paper available where you need to print the picture you want on that paper mirrored, and then you can iron it on any kind of textile (for instance a tshirt). But you said you wanted larger than what your basic printer could produce, so just forget what i just said ;-)
I'm sure there are copyshops out there that can get you what you want though.

I think you'd need professional help - special printing people, I mean.

you just answered your own question.

Turn your digital image into CMYK format and take it to the print shop. Remember because it looks good on your computer it doesn't mean it looks good on print. Your images better be VERY fucking high resolution and DPI.

If you have a Copy-Cop or a Kinkos nearby, take it there. They have PC & Mac workstations where you can refine your image and print them out on the large format printers. (for a fee, of course, but it's a good place and the staff are very helpful, and the technology is usually brand new.)
