It really reminds me of that Mike Young Exploding-3d-Shard design style that was really popular...but moving, of course...
He did most of the shape animation/camera angles by hand...I doubt there was much randomness involved, seems too controlled for that....
but I do think he ran the audio data thru something that would turn it into a texture he could map on those shapes (that stripey texture that gets used a lot..)...
