Yes but my computer caches the pages so that I can view the
company's website quicker...so in effect my PC is doing them
a favour!

Meho. That makes sense. I'm thinking in a different way here
and it's true what you say. Nost descriptions of a label are
too broad.

I hereby allow allow people to copy what I have written and
use for their own purposes
Copyright (C) Cobramarsh Ltd

I know, it's insane. I think copyright law has really been
twisted from what it was originally intended for...

I'm not 100% certain if it's still the case, but I think
Cyprus still doesn't have copyright laws. At least copyright
expires, by the time I'm old there'll be loads of
videogames/music you can legally get copies of, just like
classic literature now...

Is "cobramash" really a LTD. company? Do you have paperwork
to prove it? Just teasing ;)

Thnakfully, copyright is something the law only bothers with
if someone makes a case, it's never "the state versus
so-and-so " always one person who reckons someone else has
ripped them off.

selling pirate videos in 'reputable' shops.

Cobramarsh is a Ltd Company and I'm the director of it. I
kid you not. It's worth fuck all but it's good to have as I
can claim the tax back on my train fares to work. If someone
needs a GIS/CAD consultant then I'm your man.

Yeah, a load of guys I worked with used to order pirate
videos & games from cyprus. They seemed to be under the
misconception that as it ws legal there if you imported it
here it wasn't illegal as it was manufactured in a country
where that law didn't apply. Bit like saying that you can
bring weed home form amsterdam because it's legal there :)

Giginger: I was tempted to do GIS as I was quite interested
in it after A-level, but I wanted a more general degree.
I've done a bit of CAD too, I had a Cad drawing of the
millenium stadium months before it was released to the
public. I'm quite slow compared to a real architect though
and I'm crap at the 3d stuff. haven't done any in ages, last
time I did it was to re-arrange the furniture in my gf's
room without having to physically lug it around to different
possitions. It was quite cool as due to the fact that my
parents house at the time was the same architecturally (even
down to the same measurements for walls etc) I then reused
the drawing to do there room, just with new furniture added.

Commie fag! ;)

I think the idea of protecting intellectual property is
good, but it's abused so much. Like if you design something
like say a map/logo for a company you can really stitch them
up by putting seemingly innocuous technical clauses to do
with media and quantity in the contract then demand
shitloads once they printed off flyers/put it on their
website/product/whatever. My uni got done because they put a
map online that they only owned the copyright to in printed
form. The guy was demanding so much it became cheaper to
commision another map for the website than pay to use the
existing one.

Let me put it this way: In the words of wise Stirner: "My
property is whatever I can take", thus, intellectual
property is laughable. You can copyright ideas? Once they
leave your head, they are up for grabs. Design too, the way
I see it. I know the artists work hard to come up with it,
but, hey, unless you can prevent me from taking it, I'll
take it as I please.

Ceri: I've been doing it about a year now. It's really
interesting. About to do a course in 3D modelling so that
should be good. I'm about to embark on a project doing my
house in CAD and when I've done the course to do it on 3D as
well. Going to be interesting.

has career prospects. Maybe not at this place but with all

That's going to be a good laugh. Have to use some NHS custom

apparently it's great. I'll leave that till I see it.

As for Copyright. Invented by some money grabbing git
basically. I can understand if someone has spent a lot of
time and effort on something and someone just takes it for
free that they'd be pissed off but normally the people who
bleat about it are the ones who've done sod and have just
copyrighted something.

Nah, laws have to be public domain. I think it's actually
specified that they need to be publically available as
otherwise ignorance would be a sound defence. If they can
say, well, you can get copies online (you can with most new
acts of parliment) then you're scuppered :)

That's exactly my point. If Skodt was to come and demand
that I give this avatar up, I'd do it out of respect to him
as a person and fellow MB poster. If he was to sue me, I'd
tell him to fuck off. If he then was to come over and beat
my ass, he'd be entitled to have it... Simple as that. I
say, your actual power to take or protect your property IS
your right to that property. There is no "natural" right
beyond power. So, ideas that I can "have" or use because you
have made them public, are mine to have or use unless you
can physically prevent me from it.

The law is based on power, sure (Benjamin and derrida made
sure we all know that), however, regarding intellectual
property, the system always wants to make us think that it
is not naked power that protects it, but also some natural
law. Which is simply not true. Or factual, or whatever.

Korben: I have sent that mail, so, yeah, another scan sounds
great!!!

Gigi: Idol list? Who else is on that list?

A good example of copyright licking balls here:
Evil Dead DVD in the Book of the Dead case was supposed to
have Sam Raimis very first film (Within the Woods) on it as
well. Due to copyright problems it was left off. He, Bruce
Campbell and Rob Tapert own the copyright to that film. They
made the film, never released it so no company can claim to
own the rights. Why was it left off? Because when they
filmed it they didn't have a lot of money so didn't re-shoot
a lot of scenes. In the background of one of the scenes a
car goes past and you can catch a slight bit of a song as it
goes. Thus the film has it on it's soundtrack so they have
to pay royalties for the song. How ridiculous is that?

re bootlegs: My thoughts exactly. Most of them seem to use
the same acapellas. Public Enemy: Bring the Noise
Missy Elliott: Get ur freak on
The Hives etc, There used to be a lot of originality but not
anymore. Every now and then a classic pops up. Osymyso's
Introspection being one of them.

re idol list: Oh yes and John Holmes for that old Skool
