Yes, it is a hoak. I know for a fact that Derrick May did the music for the PSOne Ghost in the Shell videogame. Perhaps it came from there?
I'm not sure myself, but yes it's damn good.

just watched this dvd tonight. i must say i'm not a anime fan, but i found it to be quite beautiful. the story needs some work IMO but the soundtrack is indeed-y beautiful and something i'd like to check out more IN depth!
i'm glad i watched it tho, and i'd like to rewatch it and see what i might have missed the first time.

i dont know if this is what you are talkin about... but i used to see a video on german mtv every once in awhile, and it had a sample from the score, reworked as a techno song, and the video was this cgi robot.
kinda boring though...
