doesn't it piss you off? they all ask me... so... "you
listen to any music?" and they expect the same fucking
answer as what they listen to.

Imagine if someone stuck a nail or a rod or something into
your eardrum and punctured it... I'd cry. Imagine if it hit
your brain? EEEWWWW!!!

Anyway, I recommend you stick a nail or a rod or something
into their ears, teach them a lesson about life. *snarl

I'm shocked music students are that ignorant, actually...

pretty much all they listen to is classical music & jazz...
really fucking lame... no creativeness comes from
themselves... just rehashing bull shit

Thats pretty sad. I would think because they're majors or
whatever they'd have the ... 'openess' for different kinds
of music. Then they could you know get creative and go...oh
cool look at that...oooo look what he did. And really
notice technicalities. But i guess not. Thats pretty sad.

i went with my mom to an outside market store today
(although i stayed in the car) and while i was waiting i
played some gantz graf in our car. I turned it up nicely
you know :) hoping people walking behind the car would
notice the high notes muffled from the inside. But when my
mom came back in the car she said she could hear it from the
till!!! :) I was happy. That means the whole place heard
me!! YEEHAW!

music school not consider that music?

Exactly.

''have you played them afx's melodic stuff? how can anyone
in music school not consider that music? ''

Exactly.

And to conclude this post... exactly.

in many peoples eyes, its not real music if its not played
with instruments by people

i will say though, every new semester, i meet more and more
people who are into it/ accepting of it

electronic music is growing my friends

i am sure that someday it will break into the mainstream

good or bad... its gonna happen

"in many peoples eyes, its not real music if its not played

with instruments by people"

That really pisses me off to..... its a little thing that
people call ...... COMPOSING!

I said to once to someone who thought like that.....,
stravinsky couldnt play the violen or cello for shit, but
could he write bueatiful music for it....... of course.

I can play sax and piano, but thats not to say that people
who cant play an "instrument" are not musicians...... the
thought of calling people who compose music, but canot
play..... to not call them musicians is really fucking
arrogant and sad. And I see people do it all the time, at my
school at least...... pisses me of to no end

happened to me just today in fact. was at Mr. E's music
shop, browsing their over priced fuck all shitty keyboard
section, i was fuckin around with one of the keyboards,
while listening to some ear fucking doormouse, when i am
approached by this kid decked out in blink-182 shirt,
complete with signature tom fender strat guitar. he asks me
what i am listening too. i hand him the headphones, and
crank the volume (for those of you who do not know,
doormouse is fucking HARDCORE), after about a second, he
whips off the headphones, tosses them to me and says "oh my
god! that shit is SO gay!!", he then goes off and jams some
more blink-182. i came close beating that kid to death with
his shit guitar, you re-mother-fuckin-spect dan doormouse
weither you like his music or not. fuckers, all of them.
gonna lock them in a room and blast then a billion watts of
the finest hardcore/gabber/breakcore etc. till the sound is
so great that they explode in a shower of blood and flesh.
blarg, sorry for the long rant.

well a synth is a compositional tool, just alie a guitar,
except you don't have to input the notes etc EVERY TIME you
play it. thats pretty much the only difference.
(except appearance, sound etc...but you know what i mean)

you have to realise that some jazz is realy cool (same with
classical) though.
i mean if you only listwen to idm and they only listen to
jazz/classical then you're just as closed minded as they
are.

how is playing on a soft synth any different than playing a
guitar. it takes the same amount of skill to do something
good, the same creativity. they are both simply tools for
expression. nothing more. the concept that guitar is somehow
more "organic" is idiotic. they're all based on soundwaves.

That's about all I have to say on that.

yeah playing synths well takes just as much skill as playing
a guitar (or any tradition instrument like that)

its just that synths dont put as much of an emphasis on
physical dexterity..
...i play the guitar, and i personally find it really
frustrating to be limited by how fast my feeble fingers can
move...
..i guess with a good sequencer and a sytnh you dont have
that problem... IF you have the skills to take advantage of
them

see, you can have all the pyrotechnic playing ability in the
world, but that doesn't make you a good musician. i care
only about the music. being able to play multiple notes in
rapid succession is certainly admirable, but if it sounds
bad, it doesn't matter.
