Convince Me! (to buy SAWII)

I have access to SAW II at my local record store, but I
don't know if I should buy it. I've been getting mixed
opinions about it. Can anyone convince me to buy it?

no, not really. it's VERY much down to the individual.

The ONLY way is to listen first.

I think it's just one of those albums that you NEED in your
collection, for when you're in that particular mood...

True?

if you dont buy it, you'll hear it later on, love it and try
to find it and it wont be there and then you'll kill
yourself because the only copy you've got is a really poo
mp3 that was taped in the next room with a kids microphone,
while it was playing on an am radio station.
and then , you'll think back and say, shit!! i could have
bought that so easily from that record store, but now i've
got to pay 3000 quid for a cd copy off ebay.

personal preferences but most of the album is far too
sedate...only a handful of songs actually have a beat or any
musical structures than droning ambience...I mean a lot of
it even lacks melodies..take a listen to the samples on the
explore page and decide for your self...

I love it! get it!

You cant just listen to the samples on this page in RA.

Just get it, sleep to it, cry to it, laught to it, enjoy it,
have it in the background, listen to it, smoke to it, take
extacy to it, fuck to it, listen to headphones.

flea, music doesn't require beats all the time. i'm not
having a go at you when i say this but i guess you lean
towards the 'industrial' end of electronica.

offline scrabblesensor from belfast (United Kingdom) on 2002-07-22 14:40 [#00319828]

yes. I bought it as new and its been on rotation ever
since...It's one of those records that there are beautiful
tracks that you can imagine diferent things and places to.
and very scary tracks that are actually fairly un-nerving.
If you have heard any of the Brian Eno Ambient Series you
will apprecitae. I actually only picked up these ENO albums
recently and it was like joining the dots backwards.
Definitely Aphex has updated Eno's dreamscape worlds....

it should give you a whole new perspective on what music's
about.

I think SAWII is an excellent album. It's made me scared,
it's made me cry. it's made me laugh and think. It's an
awesome album covering different emotions and probably
creating new ones. It's also my #1 album to study to. And to
sleep to. It will relax you and make you feel carm, then it
will freak you out.

Get it!! If you don't like it atleast you can look at the
pretty photo's inside :)

as interesting as Richard's other stuff IMO.

you have to be in the mood for listening to it (but it's not
as necessary as for autechre for example) but i'd recommend
it too...!

try listening to it in the dark when you've got enough
time.
laying on your bed with all lights out -- especially for
[blue calx] -- is the best way to appreciate it methinks...
