i mean seriously... what makes it such a powerful thing?

Im not religous... and i have my doubts about
spirituality... but If there was ever an argument for a
soul, or some higher being... music would be on the top of
the list as proof...

but what about people who dont like music? I cant imagine
it. There are people that just dont like any type of music.

thoughts?

People are different, man. They might be passionate about
something else. Music is different things to different
people, to both extremes. I, personally, wouldn't want to
live without music..

I don't know why music is so great but I just got back from
seeing Mastodon in a shitty little club and I had the time
of my life!

i was one of those people.....
up until 98 i never listened to anything, i thought all
music was bad....
then i discovered there was more to music than pop or
rock.....and the rest, as they say, is history....

the point is, that anyone who claims not to like music can
be converted

I live vicariously through it... or... something... I'm not
sure. But I DO know it's my one true love, for sure. I need
music to live.

Yeah, I know people who don't like any music.

I never liked anything enough to buy it till I was 14.

The individuality

The emotion

The range

The crossovers

...everything

Music is my religion (seriously it is). I believe that
without music I might not be here today.

Ever heard of the super string theory?

Our entire existance could just be some tiny molecular
guitar string vibrating to different pitches.

this doesnt have anything to do with physics, and the String
Theory does it?

because it has nothing to do with pitches and stuff

there are strings, as the smallest possible form of
matter... but vibrating pitches? i dont know about that...

Actually, im only intrested in Electronic Music, I wouldnt
give a shit about music if there was only Rock music to
listen to, or any kind of "Traditional" music.

I love music because of the way it can make me feel. When
you hear a track that tweaks that part of your brain and
you're just thinking "oh yeah". Other times it can get me
all glassy eyed.

Also I love how music can be a shared experience. You can
be in a room with 5000 strangers and somehow there's a bond
there.

When I saw Ween and the entire crowd spontaneously started
singing along to "Buenos Tardes Amigo" it was truly special.
The band wasn't expecting it, just a great moment.

it's because of the universality of it.
I make music to describe things I can't describe with words
or pictures.
I listen to music because... because... I don't know really
but I listen music 5h a day (in average)

Interesting topic.Could it be the sense of escapism? That is
why IMO, i think there is a definite link to computer games
and electronic music (IMO,remember)...very enjoyable and
addictive.I couldn't contemplate life w/o music...can't
remember a day when i've NOT listened to music (in the
last,oh 20 years or so...).}:>

there were years in my life[when i was very depressed] where
i didnt listen to any music, had no interest what so
ever, then probably around `96 i started listening to
music[became a little obsessed about it]as it made me
happy.so yes i would say it can be incredibly powerful ,and
can touch the soul[if there is one].

but i want to know what is it about music that allows us to
escape into it (i agree its escapism...)

what is it about sound that can strike so deeply into us?

Yesterday I listened to jean michel jarre "equinoxe" (1978)
AAh I felt nostalgic ! Haven't heard that since 8 years !
some tracks sound kitch, but the secund side is nice ambient
stuff.

I now understand why I like ae and other stuff so much : I
listened to ambient when I was 12 !

I had fun seeing this record and confield standing on the
florr near the speakers :
what an odessey between these two records in the life of
little Neurone !

...like lots of people here, music is an important part of
my life

The psychologist in me says its a 'womb' thing (i.e. by
association.....maybe mothers music made us feel warm and
contented pre birth),thus, giving us that comfort post
birth. But some would say '..but my mum listened to nothing
but Motorhead, wheres the comfort in that?'. So,we could
cancel out that theory.Maybe life is just too tough for all
of us,and we need to block everything ou with noise and
soothe us with ballads.Sorry,i don't feel i'm answering UR
Q.here.Anyone else? }:>
