Yep...that's def one of the first...someone sent it to me
when Google opened up their USENET archive a few months
back...

Do a search on Rephlex - I seem to recall an excellent
posting about the hardware used in creating UI & other
rephlex early stuff....

for other fun history, check out the old archives of the
idm mailing list which coined the term we all love to hate.
The list was originally created to talk about Rephlex
artists ... I didn't know that.

I didn't know that RDJ was a production designer on Start
trek:TNG though. :)

yay..I love google...

Just found the details of one of my first AFX gigs...

"pOoTers pSycheDelic shAcK
ChroniKles - 1993

23rd May
Thee Hypnotics bass player Craig Pike dies from a heroin
overdose in London.

14th August
The 24 Hour Technicolour Dream at Brixton Academy, London
with Hawkwind, Chumbawamba, Back To The Planet, Aphex Twin,
Test Dept, Senser, Transglobal Underground and The Dub
Warriors. Sound System by Club Dog, lightshows."...

Wow...14th Aug 1993 ... nearly 10 yrs ago...and what a gig
it was (imagine a 24hr gig...altho AFX only played for about
an hourandahalf of that...

in a word....NO...

R&S records was from Belgium....tons of good music came from
there, late 80s early 90s...

All that NEW BEAT stuff, then R&S and all the begium Techno
athems (which were well popular at raves around my way in
Essex)...

But rdj is english...from Cornwall..

r and s were a new beat label but are most famous for hoover
rave and rdj's first ep's and lp

New Beat was pretty popular around here as well...but then
house came in and NB kinda dissapeared was sucked into
Acid/Hooverville...

I recall this one time I went up to the DJ to get him to
play Voodoo Ray...He just finishes cueing the next track,
takes off his headphone and then we have a chat...and then
he's just about to put next track on so I say "How about a
bit of Voodoo Ray?"..he smiles, passes me a joint, flips the
fader and you can guess exactly what he played...

Smooth little moment...;)..

Excellent. Just noticed your from Chelmsford, I'm up that
way next month. What's a good club or place in general to go
to?

none I can think of...depends what you lie, I guess but
Chelmsford is full of Sharon N Tracy types going to ritzy
type clubs like Dukes, Zeus etc...

You're in luck if you like Wine Bars as well as we seem to
have a viral growth of em at the moment....

But there is a nice little club called The Basement which is
more geared towards students/beatniks etc. so they play a
lot better music...think the night is called Bitter Scene or
something like that...

Also D-Place in Chelmsford have DnB nights on Sundays I
think....

What sort of places do you like to go to?..

Anywhere that plays the type of music we discuss here
really. Also Rock music. I'm not adverse to Jumping Jaks but
I have to be almost paralytic before I enjoy it,

The Army & Navy pub is the rock pub around here...they have
club/gigs more or less every night..lots of homegrown &
tribute band stuff...

OK Thanks for the info man. Last time I was up that way
there was a record fair in the town hall or something.
Managed to pick myself up SAW so I was happy. I did notice a
lot of white Escorts around the place.

Unfortunately I will only have the Thursday night free to go
out. Otherwise that DnB place would have been perfect. I'll
probably go for the Army & Navy pub.
