~ well i'll be damned. i do get a glimmer of hope from the supreme court's reaction. like: "We're a court. We really don't know about these things." Gesturing to her colleagues on the bench, Kagan added, "You know, these are not like the nine greatest experts on the internet," a comment followed by laughter in the courtroom. very frankly saying, in the nicest way possible: we're not qualified to decide this, self-deprecating humor then a good few of them coming around and asking some fundamentally good questions "How do I draw a line between an algorithm and active collusion?" Justice Sonia Sotomayor asked. in the end, they basically say: we have no fucking idea! congress should deal with this shit. but several fired some pointed shots across the bow, hinting at limited patience with internet platform providers. Indeed, while today's case could well end in a fizzle, more cases are expected next term. ...is it still sort of a long post if it's condensed a multi-page NPR article into the above? i'm not qualified to decide this |

i bet being on the supreme court is like freshman year of college forever; clarence thomas is your roommate for decades. just, "oh, hi, i guess we're roommates" and he snores and eventually someone realizes rehnquist had been dead for decades and now you also have Brett Kavanaugh in the room next door, and he seems nice at first but then he is just the most sketchy drunk ever and you wake up one night and he's drunk off his ass and trying to get into your bed, eventually, you realize, because he thinks he's in his room and it's his bed. and this continues for decades. and that's what the supreme court is like. yeah. poor bastards |
