was putting together his expensive couches .

Acording to him it was the fucking bomb.

also, i'm considering either vhs or betamax, which is
better?

technically, betamax is supposed to be superior to vhs. But
for some reason VHS won the battle. Since betamax tapes will
be pretty much impossible to come by these days, i'd say go
for VHS.

I've read that 1080p is only useful at maximal 3x
screenheight viewing distance, with perfect eyes that is. If
you go further it starts to blur. So it's only useful with a
big screen and/or you need to sit close to the screen.

I think contrast(true black) and good colours (no banding)
are a much bigger issue than ultra high resolution

One of the other guys living here works in movie editing,
and he's seen proper 1080p on a full hd tv set, and he said
it was great. I've seen it, but only in the store, and those
guys don't know how to set their sets, so I don't rely on
what I see.. I'm also not sure it really was 1080p, as I
still saw that LCD-LSD "everything is moving" thing.

CRT, bitch!

yeah one of my housemates has a ps3 and a 1080p 26" HDTV.
not only can I not tell the difference the ps3 manages to
make normal DVDs look like shit.

i've seen full 1080p, there is indeed a massive difference
in picture quality, makes you want to go up and lick the
film grain

it's absolutely obscene. native 1080p on a 52" tv is enough
to make your dick ejaculate test pressings of SAW.

Yes, I have a 42" 1080p TV and my PS3.
Originally I thought it was all going to be hype but after
watching a couple of films at 24hz 1080p I am 100% lover of
it.

This is true, 15" tv for me or LASIK in the future.

There is also a new tech for monitor using LED's which are
able to display true black and stronger contrast.

Gobshite.

Firstly: There is no such thing as a 1080p 26" TV in the UK.
The Japenese have only just got the Sharp (first one) and
they haven't announced a UK release.
Secondly: The upscaling on the PS3 has been repeatedly voted
as best in any player under £1500. Recent DVD's look
fucking excellent when upscaled.

I suggest you either stop lying or you learn a little bit
more about what you are ignorantly ranting on about.

oh and if you can't see the difference between 1080p and SD
you need your eyes replacing.

If you have a 26" LCD 720p HD is fantastic.

comparison DVD version and HD
the discolouration is probably an effect of something else
so I think you need to discard that. it's also a bit zoomed
in so the difference looks more dramatic also moving
pictures are less detailed(=less difference) for the
eyes/brain than screenshots, I also see some blocks on the
DVD version which is a codec issue

Blue Ray or HDTV is fucking blurred. One see nothing ! I
want to see japanese ultra high resolution @ 60 fps, then
I'll be sick, then it will be good.

It looks as though they have just used a scaled version that
isn't upscaled via hardware/software.

But 24fps (24Hz) is better for watching film.

O4RLY ? I don't think so, ecnad bear. 180 Hz is the way
imho.

yes it's badly upscaled(bilinear i suspect) DVD versus
HDDVD.

upscaling with avisynth
Limitedsharpenfaster(dest_x=1920,dest_y=1080,strength=40)
would probably look much better

Nah 24hz output directly from blu-ray is nice as hell.

ok maybe i got the p wrong? perhaps its interlaced? and im
being completely honest, the blacks on DVDs are incredibly
blocky. that may be the TV?

im not lying. theres no need to fly off the handle
and be a complete prick about it.

And now you are being a racist twat.
I have seen Get Rich Or Die Tryin' on DVD and the blacks
don't look any blockier on a HD panel.

What the hell ? If your eyes see only 24 Hz, then you're
retarded, like many others, it's that simple !!! OK,
goodbye, i'll be back in 3 years or so.

Um, no but film is recorded at 24fps so displaying a 24fps
source on a 180fps TV isn't really going to make it better
now is it...especially as 180 isn't even a direct multiplier
unlike 120hz sets.

"the blacks don't look any blockier on a HD panel."
this could be a banding issue, a common lcd artifact
