Obviously one of the greatest joys life brings us, in my
eyes, is the opportunity to be a parent. However, I've been
thinking lately about where the world could be five years
from now, twenty years from now...it doesn't look great,
does it? Global warming, war, the economy, water and food
shortages, George F'n Bush...everything seems so uncertain.
Considering all of the world's problems, is it immoral to
bring a child into times such as these?

Can you imagine having a child of 10 years old and trying to
explain to him where our generation failed him, and why
himself and his family are sick, starving, broke, or dying,
with the fate of the world quickly evaporating? I'd love to
be a dad, but half of me feels greedy for wanting to meet
that need while risking my future offspring's wellbeing. Is
it silly to think like that or does anyone else feel that
way?

i don't think you're right... and not having a child for
those reasons is wrong...

i mean aren't these the same issues that our parents and
their parents would have thought about as well? like all
that war shit that was going on and stuff...

personally i would rather exist than not at all... no matter
how fucked the world is at the time, it's not like i know
any better...

I think fossil fuels are going to be a thing of the past
soon. George Bush will be gone in a year. Technology is
getting better. We are just coming out of the industrial
revolution.. People are more aware of the issues than ever
before. Etc.... The standard of living is higher than it
ever has been. Things are getting better I think. Things
will never be perfect.

friends to get my eye wandering.

I hate kids. I have a little brother ten years younger than
me and he was really annoying around the age of 5-11.

Maybe that's a little optimistic, but I see what you mean.

The standard of living is higher than it
ever has been.

In what country(ies)? As far as I was aware this peaked
sometime in the 1970's for the US.

If you have a child, be aware that they will not live to
their 10th birthday.

yeah 2012. we're all in for some cosmic suprise/rebirth.

maybe apophis, maybe the second coming, maybe hitler's
testicle will seep out of his scrotum and fall in his stinky
grave and cause the Earth to come off its axis.
