Are you located anywhere near northern Chile? Any damage
from that awful earthquake?

No, I'm right down in the south (in Valdivia which was
DESTROYED by the strongest earthquake ever registered in the
60s). It was interesting on CNN as they only had contacts in
Santiago, the capital, which is in the middle. And they'd
say "So, wooah, what's the damage there?" and the person on
the spot would say "Well, there isn't any, we're 1,500 km
away".

Earthquakes here come with the territory. Literally.

Still though, there was a little tremble in Santiago and the
dogs were going nuts the night before (not sure if that was
in any way related).

In order to stay sane in Chile (to what degree of success I
don't know) I have long since learned to filter out the ever
present sound of dogs going mental. As a warning against
imminent disaster they'd serve me no purpose. When we used
to live on the fifth floor of some building you'd feel
tremors very often. Though I'd have to check to see if a
plant was shaking or the light shade swaying to confirm it
was a tremor and not just me feeling whoozy.
