What do you hate about america?

I am trying to think of a question for the debate, but i
want to get more foreign input about what our fellow
brothers and sisters on this planet think about our foreign
policies. Obvioulsy the war isn't popular but i think the
US did not have great foreign policy before the war started
(see 9/11).

So please Foreign people tell us how much you hate us and
why.

As I've read a number of anti-america topics here, I can
summarize the position of most of the Europeans on the
board:

"I hate them because they r fat."

it's a very good, concise summary of his critiques of
american foreign policy since the vietnam war. even though
it's so dense, it's still perfectly readable.

enjoy!

They shout all the time. They're fat. They're nationalistic.
They're religious. They think they rule the world.

On the positive side, only 85% are like that.

* You pollute in such insane amounts, that it more or less
doesnt matter what a small european country (like mine) does
about this themselves. Not signing the Koyoto agreement was
a disaster.

* You mix your religion with everything. Everyone is
thanking "god". This seems strange in our eyes, when you for
example go to war. We havent done that since the crusades!

* A lot of the shittiest culture, that is shown on
television here, is american. Were subjected to Pussycat
dolls and Jerry Springer here.

* You take a lot of pride in a nation, that is basically a
huge chunk of land some bold europeans stole from people who
had no concept of "owning".

* Your government seems to completely abandon poor people.
In my country, health care and education is free. FREE.

Now, i don't actually hate America, but this is IMO the
reasons you are hated. In my eyes, the reason America has
all of those things, is simply because the nation is so
huge, that we cant grasp it. Alongside all the crappy things
you have, you also have some of the greatest. I mentioned
Jerry Springer. Yes, you have lousy television, but you've
also produced some of the greatest movies and television
ever.

So, i don't America at all, but there are many aspects of
it, that i have a hard time understanding.

Hope you can use it :)

"your freedom obviously."

freedom?? are you serious? modern slavery is freedom?

tell that to a 9-5 worker that can just about pay for a bag
of fruit n veg each week(that grows from the ground) pay for
water that falls from the sky, rent (haha) for space that
none should own anyway.

unless you mean freedom to pollute ,rape the planet,
kill, rip people off ect ect ..and yet still feel a slight
sense spiritual cleanliness due to basing our morals on
government law

the whole planet 'not just america' is a total fk up. but
people don't see it because they are blinded by the latest
materials/ gadgets and TV adverts.

soon all the poor/middle class people will be dead by civil
wars due to lack off food (global warming) all because of
our present lifestyles.

they don't teach this type of thing in schools.

I don't think television is a very serious reason for
disliking Americans. I'm sure they wouldn't want to watch
most of the utter dross produced on UK cable TV either.

I think American's biggest weakness is the insecurity of
it's people. The vast majority simply don't think for
themselves, they always want to be told what to think,
whether it's dumb political propaganda, movie propaganda,
religion, psychiatrists, you name it - they seem incapable
of thinking independently.

Although this doubtless applies to most countries, and is a
serious flaw in the human intellect, Americans seems to be
infected by it in a way that is similar to under-developed
nations, such as in South Asia or Middle East. Unlike other
countries, Americans live in a democracy and have access to
all the information they could need via the Internet, so
their lack of self-education is unforgivable really.

I hate Wolfslice's knack of attempting to dismiss many valid
points into a glib throwaway sentence, deliberately spelt,
ironically, as an American teen would spell it, in a vain
attempt to deflect attention away from minor things such as
an atrocious public health-care system, an atrocious public
education system, an awful justice system, an awful attitude
to (and deliberate misunderstanding and misrepresentation of
) foreign lands (hey, guys, the rest of the world started
loathing you AFTER you started acting like World Police, you
didn't become World Police because the whole world started
loathing you), and the fact its dragging the rest of the
world into some kind of mental stone age.

By "it" I mean the country as a whole, not its specific
citizenry, many of which are o.k.

To be specific, I was riffing on the Bill Burroughs "I hate
america" topics (several of them) that actually went
something like that.

Anyhoo, I live here in the US, and I can safely say that
most American's don't give a shit about whats happening
outside our country and it's affairs. It's sad but true. My
father and sisters live in Germany, so I get to spend quite
a bit of time there and I tend to follow the world news and
alternate views a little more closely then most here.

If it was up to me our government would be as minimal as
possible and NEVER partake in nation building, except
through private charitable functions. The whole mess in Iraq
should never have happened.

We're going through a rough patch right now and I hope the
next administration can smooth it over a little bit. You've
had your problems too, Europe. Fuck off if you try and say
you havent. Your countries are no better. And whatever you
want to think about the United States, the people still DO
have a say here, and sooner rather than later you will start
to see changes for the better.

I hope you are right because i agree that no one gives a
fuck about anything here. Its very sad, and the people that
do give a fuck are not heard over the ipods,TV, Sports, etc.
Its sad cause lots of people that are confronted dont even
know that shit is actually happening outside of there small
social bullshit. I am guilty of this shit too but its
gotten to a new low in America lately that i honestly dont
see any administration sorting out this shit, they all seem
to give the same bullshit answers. "We will cut taxes", "we
will get our boys out of iraq", "we will get health care for
everyone", "we will be serious about global warming",
blahblahblah.

Who would you vote for if you had to vote tomorrow?

"it more or less doesnt matter what a small european country
(like mine) does about this themselves"

Wrong statement.

When it comes to America's foreign policy, there are many
things to hate, and many of them overlap with things to hate
about most other rich countries' foreign policies which, to
a large extent, seeks to protect their own interests instead
of alleviating other people's troubles which they are also
indeed partially responsible for by imposing unfair "trade"
agreements on them under the disguising "you'll be better
off than before" statement that doesn't mention that you
won't be as well of as you could have been, had we been less
egotistical and cunty, and especially not that it also
basically allows us to take further advantage of you.
There's also the constant searching for loopholes whenever
some sort of international agreement to help the global poor
that leads to the release of interpretive statements about
the content of the agreements, usually making them not apply
to America because "Human rights, eh? That's a rather vague
concept, don'cha thinks?"

Yeah American cheese has really free-fallen down my list of
favorite cheeses since I've gotten older. The only thing
it's good for is grilled cheese sandwiches. Let's stop
hating on my country and just talk about cheese, what do you
all say?......

OK then, fine let's talk shit. Trash my government all you
want but please don't make statements about how the citizens
"simply don't think for themselves, they always want to be
told what to think,
whether it's dumb political propaganda, movie propaganda,
religion, psychiatrists, you name it - they seem incapable
of thinking independently."

Do you know people that fall into this category or is that
just what you assume? Did someone tell me to listen to Aphex
Twin? No, I saw the Come To Daddy video, loved it, and did
more research on the genre which lead me here however many
years ago. I don't know anyone that likes being told what to
do as I'm sure you don't either. So, what the fuck are you
talking about? Do you think us Americans are just robots
programed to spend money on Brittany Spears CDs and the
latest American Pie movie? I don't know where you get your
information, but no, that isn't true and makes you look
quite silly.

Americans are optimistic. We also assume people are good
more than bad. Not everyone, but I think that is a common
characteristic. That could be confused with blind devotion,
not thinking for ourselves, etc. We also feel detached from
many things as basically big money and corporations run
everything.
