Does anyone what type of mixing desk (barand & model), Richard (Aphex twin, afx...), uses these days, and on his early stuff?

i wouldn't bother. these 2nd hand mixing mixing desks dont work the best when covered in a thick layer of yogo and semen.

are you mixing external modules instruments? or are you mainly using internal soft synths?
either way.
get a 16chn midi controller and link it to a sequencer mixer (cub logic ect)with a multichannel sound card. make sure your latencies can go low enough, this way you can record your movements and fine tune em, semi automated live and gives you lots of options like controlling fx and tings. blah de blah de blah,

Here's the story, I'm currently looking for a new mixing desk for my studio. And in the process of checking different desks, I've been looking at what desks my favourite producers are, and have been using.
This way, I get a feeling of how the different desks sound.
freqy: I'm using hardware synthesizers, and have a midi setup I'm really happy with. I also record a lot non-electronic instruments (drums, guitarr, bass, horns,.....).

You need good microphones and a great pre amp. Go ask this question at gearslutz.

I'm already at gearslutz.
I mainly produce electronic music. So I'm doing a bit of research on what sounds good with synthesizers.... I use analog stuff mainly, aswell as sampling ofcourse.
I just thought someone here might know what he used, and is using these days.

signal to noise is usually the first thing i check out .
as the mystical alien above mentioned, a good pre amp is a must ( even if its just one channel!) don't buy a rack of em buy one sweet mother and bypass everything, record ,then mess about afterward with the signal,( you can get some nice single/stereo channel portable preamps now so you can use it for field work as well ..grab some nice samples and take em home..
as for desks how much you got to spend? thousands? hundreds?
best ive used is a cadac but that was a small fortune bout 10 years back. as i said i use all internal soft instruments mainly at present when i record 'in' from the outside world my so called 'desk' is a couple of tascam ma-ad8's ( da -88 pre amp racks) running through a motu 2408 .( emu 1616m for individual channel recordings).all these go into nuendo and are mixed recorded ect...then sent out via a bus thats how i mix anyways. and i'm very happy with it. gotta have automation
allen and heath mackie soundcraft
the more you spend the better. but i havent even thought to buy a desk in over 10 years...ive no need for one at all really as latency isn't a problem now.
peace:)
