I'm adding a new HD to my PC set-up... It's my GF's old
one, and is 55 gigs... however, when I go to integrate it
into my PC (using WINXP Computer Management), it's only
listed as having 33 gigs!

What am I to do?!

have you made sure its all in one partition?

if theres only one partition readable by windows, that could
happen.

When I go into Computer Management to format it, the box,
greyed-out, says 31.49GB, Unallocated.

I followed the procedure and un-partition it, then reformat
it (not using quick format or anything).

Try using a non retarded partitioning tool like Acronis disk
director. I have a bootable ISO of it if you want. Some
manufacturers have hidden partitions on their hard drives
with system recovery shit on there. I'm not sure whether or
not that would be visible to the XP disk tools.

i doubt it would be visible - i went over to my sister's
place a few weeks back, to help sort her laptop out.

she'd bought an Advent laptop from PC World, and it came
with Windows Vista Home Premium on it. my sister knew that i
had Vista Ultimate and asked me to put that on there. Whilst
trying to delete the visible second partition (which i
assumed to be the restore partition) i stumbled across a
hidden partition that could only be viewed using the
DISKPART command from the Vista command line (accessible by
booting from the install disk, getting past the CD key
screen and pressing Shift+F10).......i dunno if you can run
the DISKPART command from within Vista, but yeah....i guess
some partitions can be made pretty invisible.

then again i haven't messed around with Vista enough to know
what it can and can't show you

someone who's more Windows savvy and less Macintosh savvy,
please put in your two quid.

there's many more people on this board who're more
technically knowledgable.

like ecnadniarb.

and Monoid

Partition Magic and see if the other partition is logical or
primary, FAT32 or NTFS.
