 | can it be that the Nord Modular (the previous version) sounds more vintage and less laptopy? or am i hearing

 | nord micromodular sounds good - i almost shit myself the first time i trig'd a note on mine. kinda thin sounding,
digital, but still capable of some straight up fat ass warm
 buzzy bass

 | actually that thin digital sound is why i desire a modular so much. every company producing synths mostly concentrate
as much they can on copying patents already done - 3 osc, 2
lfo, 2 adsr, filter, finish. the modular stands out in every
 way.

 | I have started designing my own semi-modular synthesiser recently.
I've copied a lot of the ideas from the Synton Fenix,
because I think it's really neat and has some great
features. There are also a few ideas of my own, which I
 would like to try out.
I expect a working model to be complete in the next couple
of years (would be sooner but I have work/study/life
 commitments)
I'm aiming for 19" rackmount, 8U high, monophonic - and
 sounding fabulous.

 | The original NM are kind of dirty sounding... they have their own unique sound.

 The G2s are very clean.

I prefer the G2, as you can either have the clean sound, or
find work arounds to dirty up the sound. It may take a
little more effort, but I prefer having the option.

 | Also, for NM tastiness: Jega- Geometry was done entirely on a NM1, and a G3 imac running protools.

Variance sounds like it has a lot of NM too.

 I <3 Nord Modulars.

 | also: Clavia have decided to not 1. make drivers for the G2 editor for Vista, and 2. not make drivers for universal
 binary for Macs.

Either they are anticipating a G3 (doubt it)... or they are
 retarded.

Anyone that has a G2, or wants one, should contact clavia
and let them know they've made a mistake, and should make
 those drivers!

 | No... haven't been to a music store in ages.
It doesn't really interest me. Nothing can beat the modulars
in my mind... even with sampling.

I'm pretty much at my zen state, gear wise.
