here's a thread about the island jamaica. i've been listening to a lot of jamaican music, and it blows my mind considering the sheer volume of tunes that have come from this impoverished, politically troubled and fairly tiny island. so much invention, irie and dread, enough for the whole world. i'd like to visit jamaica, but it seems like it might be like going to detroit because you like motown. the golden age of reggae music has come and gone. has anyone been to jamaica? anyone keen on lambsbread? enjoy a blue mountain brew? ska, rocksteady, reggae, roots and so on? |

a girl i lived with about 6 years ago went to jamaica and her stories and the pics she brought back were awesome. there's definitely slums, but there's also a ton of pretty places. |

i've been there, jack. and lemme tell you, it was fucking boring. switzerland is a dead, dull, boring, piece of shit chunk of rock with absolutely nothing going for it. just kiddin'. i heard a rumor that the young gods were from switzerland. isn't fennesz from switzerland? that's good enough for me. i'll get a zimmer in zurich, paint the town red, etc. sure jamaica's got some crime, but i think they rope off those areas to keep friendly tourists alive and spending money. |

it's cool, i mix in really well with the square swiss crowd, pale and pink like the pale force. i'd stand out like a sore uh tourist in jamaica, tho only infrequently mistaken for gay, so i dunno it's a toss up. |

the statistics don't lie my friend. you've just got this freaky pro-swiss bias, probably because you are either especially fond of switzerland for reasons unknown, or maybe you've even visited. maybe you even live there, and you're living in denial about the consequences. switzerland, isn't that the country where the guy agreed to be eaten by the other guy, after they met on the internet, and realized they were both from switzerland, and one of them had the desire to eat a person, and the other guy had the twisted notion to be eaten by a person, so they met up in zurich or something? it was all over the news, i'm surprised you didn't hear about it. |

yeah sorry i'm pullin' yer leg. jamaica's got one of the highest murder rates in the world, switzerland has one of the lowest, the cannibal murder was in germany, and unfortunately both peter tosh and king tubby (rip) were tragically murdered in jamaica. but i'm trying to focus on the good here, and the fact remains that jamaica has generated more than it's share of great music. g'night! |
