 | When you listen to music, which do you normally use? I tend to listen to about 65% of my music on headphones, mainly
because mine are very good (hd-650's) and I feel I can get
into the music more instead of it becoming background sound
as I concentrate on other things. My speakers simply cannot
 compete :(

 | I used to use Alesis MK2 for monitoring, but they're dead now so I dug out my logiteh z-540's instead. I've been in
plenty of studios and big nightclubs with serious systems,
but they never compare to my 650's for pure immersion in
sound imo. This is for all music btw, not just
 ambient/downtempo stuff.

Sennheiser HD-650(read that you might need an headphone
amplifier though to get them to their full use which i wont
 buy) or
 Sony MDR-SA3000.
anyone here have one of these two?
or does anyone have recomendations of really good headphones
to get for home use,and that dosent really need a headphone
 amplifier?

 | I ran the HD-650's unamped for ages and they sounded fine. But I now run them on my laptop's Echo Indigo IO which makes
an incredible difference thanks to the built-in headphone

 | Radio tuned to static at low volume would be a cheap solution, you can get special sleep-inducing sound things
that offer white noise (amongst others, but white noise is
supposed to be best for tinnitus). I've heard of people
using a fan for the fan noise, but I'd imagine that'd use a
lot more power (plus you may not want a fan on) and the
range of frequencies it'd make would be narrower.

 | I heard some stupid extra super noise cancelling hundred or so dollar gizmo pros and they weren't better than an awesome
25$ pair I had. You have to test them with subtle music like
little clicks and pops. Some headphones just blur all this
stuff making it suck like me.
