I guess I'm one of those people. If you don't want to work
then stay at home. Seriously if I'm there working hard, so
should you.
I say this as a "professional" - crappy teenage jobs and
nonsense like that doesn't count of course.

I think it's important between people performing the same
job to all work reasonably hard. If they are all being paid
the same amount, and one of the workers is pulling far more
weight, all the others should step it up a bit. The problem
is you run into so many people who just want to do the bare
minimum ALL the time. It's fine to have off-days and
distractions from other parts of your life, but when you are
constantly underproductive, that's kinda screwed up.

If you are working hard what's it got to do with you what
someone else is doing? Mind your own business. If someone
wants to laze around all day looking at the Internet it's up
to them.

If you are in a team and doing more work than others, so
what? Your job is to work hard, not spy on others. If
someone is slacking it will soon become apparent and that
person will get pulled up.

Why can't people in this life let others DO WHAT THEY WANT
TO DO!!

I am self-employed, but when I worked in offices I always
remember those wankers with nothing better to do than grass
me up for a long lunch or whatever. They usually do it so
they can get their dick sucked by the boss.

Ask yourself? What's worse, being lazy at work to the
detriment of your own career, or being a slimy creep spying
on your workmates and grassing them up. If your workmates
are being lazy, be happy for them - cos they are happy being
lazy. Otherwise you're a cunt.

Yep, this is my POV. Everyone has the odd day they are a bit
ill, tired, hungover, distracted by some recent problem in
their family life or just not feeling very productive. It's
no problem, unless it's all the time. I'd resent someone in
my team who always did b-all, solely because it'd mean more
work for me. I would view it as "covering for someone" when
it was once in a while.

Of course, the way in which someone asks you to crack on
with some work makes a huge difference. A jokey comment
like, "stop looking at that scud and get back to work you
slacker!" is far better than some sanctimonious sod
seriously telling you off as though they are your boss.

Oh yes, actually grassing someone up is a big no no. I'd
only do it if the rest of the department were in agreement
and we'd confronted the person concerned and given them a
chance to shape up.

What about the overachievers then? The ones who work too
hard ALL the time with apparently no life but work, making
our boss stretch the limit of what is considered to be an
average amount of work because the statistics say so... Now,
we don't wanna be below average now, do we? No sir, I'd
rather have a pineapple inserted violently into my rectum.

working isn't fun so you shouldn't work if you can get away
with it.

In reference to my earlier comment, when two people at a
company are performing completely different jobs, neither of
those people has any right to tell the other how to do their
job. The exception that comes to mind is when coworkers are
part of the same team, with similar responsibilities and a
shared deadline. In that scenario, it's perfectly acceptible
to tell your coworkers to increase productivity if they are
making a habit of slacking, because if they fail, it
reflects poorly upon your own performance. (I would hope
that most bosses are reasonable enough to determine where
the fault truly lies and not blame those who did their work,
but this isn't always the case.) A good rule of thumb is to
only worry about your own productivity, unless as I
previously stated, other workers' failure would reflect
badly upon you.

my main rule of thumb is to stay slightly more productive
than the other guy just so he looks bad and not me. that
creates bad blood between me and that guy though. who cares
right?

What I can't stand is when you finish something quickly or
have a few minutes to slack off, and a dickhead supervisor
assigns you some menial task to occupy you. I had a job
stocking ambulances and when I got too efficient at managing
the supplies, I started having time to loaf around with the
paramedics or on the internet, and the cocksucker get to me
to fucking dust the closet or some shit.

That's when you pull the job-description card. If you were
hired to stock supplies, tell them it's not in your
job-description to do custodial tasks, and that the task
should be deferred to the person who was hired to perform it
(the custodian). That usually gets dickhead supervisors
fairly red in the face. >:)

If you have work to do, do it, and your co-workers are right
to remind you and even hassle you. If you don't have work to
do, say it like it is.

I have had the problem of being too effective; I hate
breaks, and I usually feel the responsibility so heavily
that I won't stop until I'm done. This has, on occasions,
made me finish my work early, so I have some free time at
work. I see no problem with spending this free time doing
nothing as long as my work has been done, and has been done
well; I'm being paid for the hours I spend working, and they
say a person working normally would take about an hour more
than I would at my job, so I just finish before it, but I've
done the job of a normal person. I'm supposed to be paid by
the hour, but if I'd rather be paid the proper amount for my
job.

I have a slightly differen perspective by not working in an
office. the yank in the opposite barn throws lumps of oak
into the other barn when myself and others are standing
around chatting instead of chopping up wood. im very low
paid, but would work harder if there was incentive.

in the mean time I love hearing him say "get back to work
you limey slug" makes me laugh every time
