[tech] Reason 4.0: Will you be buying it?

I'm just curious whether or not people are very excited for
the release of Reason 4.0. I personally can't wait to try
out the Thor modular synth and also spend some time with the
reworked sequencer interface. Anyone planning on picking up
a copy either as soon as it comes out or after waiting a bit
for the price to drop? Someone at my local music instrument
store said that anyone with a registered copy of Reason 3.0
will be able to upgrade to 4.0 at no charge, and I'm not
sure if this is true, but if it is, what's to stop me from
buying a sealed copy of Reason 3 at a bargain price and then
registering and getting $400 Reason 4.0 for free?

I am buying it. The upgrade from Reason 3 will run me $129.
Beta testing version 4, I can say it will be worth every
penny.

On a side note, both Richard Devine and Tipper did design
work on this release. Thor is truly epic and the modulation
capabilities just increased to the nth degree.

He's a busy boy...A+ student

Is Reason 4 XP SP2 only? I'm still using Windows 2000.

"Is Reason 4 XP SP2 only"

I'm not sure, though if it is, then I might have problems as
I'm running Vista 32-bit. Sure, there's always "run under XP
SP2 compatibility" in vista, but it doesn't always work.

i'm guessing that business of a free upgrade will only apply
if you've recently bought a copy. would it not be awful if
you bought it a day after the cut off date? an hour even? a
minute even? mmmmmm?

I use it because I like it better than WinXP, XP is always
saying that I don't have enough privileges and theres a ton
of shit to disable and configure.

Yeah, I get the feeling it only applies to certain
purchasers> Namely those that recently bought it, as you
said. I'm going to get the demo of it 4.0 when it comes out,
and then wait a while for price to drop before buying the
full version.

Reason isn't a piece of shit. This new modular synth is
going to be a nice edition along with the new sequencer. i
hope that is more accurate and easier to work with than the
current one in R-3 which is why i stopped using it. the
hardware interface with patching etc is probably the best
feature of all though.

At least at this moment here (for now), it seems the shit
talking might be about Vista and not Reason.

i will be upgrading my legally purchased copy of 2.5 to the
4.0 release

woo

i just hope that they don't do a 4.5 release like they did
with Reason 2.0 -> 2.5

offline gl0tch from www.gl0tch.com     on 2007-10-01 08:22 [#02127062]

Why's that? It was free. I actually hope they do. That
would be amazing, considering some of the best devices came
out of 2.5

Reason 4 is pretty awesome so far, but I wouldnt complain if
they provided even more new devices. :P

ok i fucking hate reason 4

the sequencing blows, you have to actually highlight the
areas in the song you want to use on an instrument

and i can't seem to even move a note on the nn-xt after
clicking out of the piano roll mode the first time

AND

now i have to download the reason 3 torrents because when i
try to open 3 it asks me for the discs. and demonoid is
down

f reason 4

"the sequencing blows, you have to actually highlight the
areas in the song you want to use on an instrument"

wow... are you certain there's no way around this? If not,
that is seriously fucking ridiculous.

LAZY_TITLE

Made this as a quicky in an hour or so first try on reason
since 2003ish..

It's a bit crap, a lot of work is needed to get good
production and "phat" sounds from the devices.

yeah the creating clips thing is sorta weird but it's no
biggie, just select the whole thing if you want and then
resize, with lanes it's really not much trouble. but i do
think the previous way of "grouping" was better.
