maybe you forgot to give him a compliment on his new
haircut..

so what was it compared to that other time you saw him in
rome couple of years ago?

well, it was totally different
this sounded like a set of one artist, the other one like a
weird dj set

jesus fucking CHRIST.

that was without a doubt the most hardcore DJ performance i
have EVER seen.

Mindblowing set. Crowd went absolutely bonkers (mosh fucking
pit!) and Richard gave THUMBS UP TWICE accordingly.

wow. just wow.

i was dancing on mogwai too. Thought i might recognize you
at one point but didn't.

Met up with FAH though. That kicked ass. And Rhanna was
there too :)

you guessed right but yeah i can hardly blame you. It took
me and Fah about 10 txt messages to figure out locations.

Lost track of most people myself, but that didn't stop the
fun.

Would you agree that the Aphex set was nothing short of
incredible/fantastic/amazing etc?

I just looked on youtube for possible uploads but nothing
yet. My friend has some pics and videos on his camera but
the sound will probably be poor.

And i think i would sell my left kidney for a decent
recording audio recording of the set. What was up with the
Paard crew filming the whole deal from 50 different angles?

i have..i was just interested to find out if it was better
than what he was doing the past few years..because i think
his set usually leaves that sort of impression when people
see him for the first time : ) really, it's nothing you've
heard before..all venetian snares, clarks,.. don't come
anywhere close to what he does hehe

Points: 7342 Status: Lurker | Followup to tolstoyed: #02154571 | Show recordbag

i don't know but it sure didn't compare to the warehouse set
description i read, except that the beginning of the set was
nothing special and got progressively better.

He made a few pretty harsh mixing errors, but nobody seemed
to mind (i sure didn't). It only showed it was anything but
a 'play pause and relax' kind of set.

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2007-12-15 10:06 [#02154576]
Points: 50073 Status: Moderator | Followup to J198: #02154575

right..he plays an awesome song and you think it can't get
any better than that..then he plays a better one and again a
better one..till the end

as for his mixing..i really couldn't care less about mixing,
i don't pay any attention to that (not that aphex can't mix
or something), and some people seem live djing is all about
mixing. but the thing is when the mixing is perfect music is
usually the same throughout the whole set which is very
boring. with aphex it's all, or mostly about the music
selection. and i love that

offline big from lsg on 2007-12-15 10:09 [#02154577]
Points: 23711 Status: Lurker | Show recordbag

yea the sound dropped out completely at times. but i liked
it somehow

i liked it the other way around from j, I didn't care too
much about the harsh stuff in the end

offline Brisk from selling smack at the orphanage on 2007-12-15 10:11 [#02154579]

I think with aphex sets, you enjoy it a whole lot more
because:

a) you love his music
b) everyone else loves his music so the atmosphere is great

His warehouse project set wasn't great by any standard, but
i'm sure most people who were there thought it was special
simply because he was the guy they went to see, and theres
an undeniable charm about seeing him live, especially since
he doesn't perform much anymore.

I personally have seen much, much better sets though. Your
description of the night in NL sounds good though, so I
guess he played a better set there.

if you're there to dance the harsh stuff at the end is to
finish you off : )

yes, im a fanboy :D

i got the impression he usually plays better sets abroad
than uk (though that atp set was great), and i only saw him
play in the old europe and it was really excellent stuff
every time..but there's the appeal of his persona in it as
well ofcourse..though when people get high and start going
wild i doubt anyone thinks it's the legend up there
spining..

you're an awesome dude. Big you should've joined in as
well.

Too bad Rotator's laptop crashed and ended the set sooner
than planned, but owell.

Also ran into a coworker there :D

undeniable truth there. i was extremely upset about not
being able to see him (litteraly) because too many people
were in the way.

And the thought of perhaps bumping into him at the hotel
sent shivers of pleasure and terror down my spine.
sadly/gladly i didn't though.

When he thanked the crowd for being hardcore or something
like that, it really was quite a magical moment.

And it's a bit odd because many of his releases don't
particularly fascinate me in any way, but after his set was
over i considered myself a diehard fan nonetheless.

this is a bit silly i suppose, but fuck it.

the 'moshing' looked pretty aggressive to me but as far as i
know there were zero incidents that night.

just a crowd going mental and getting almost too much energy
from the music.

i think it was perhaps one of the reasons why richard gave
thumbs up after.

didnt know there was such a moshpit going on just saw a lot
of beer flowing in the air when aphex turned some other
hardstep track on. wich was a bit too much of the same

i do like his classic jungle-hardcore sets more and in the
beginning there was a lot of acid going the same stuff
autechre played like dj pierre and jackmaster funk stuff.
and the same tracks like in his melbourne 2004 set he also
played that awesome "bass master warriors" jungletrack but
that was really the only jungle so a bit dissapointing. And
also no real hardcore at all it was just all
postmodern-hardstep

And the mixing was really bad in the second half stupid
dropouts and he was playing tracks far too long but
enjoyable though. Glad i didnt mis it because once in your
lifetime you must have seen the god of electronic music
