Meteos is fun. Pokemon too if that's your thing (i finally
pried myself away from it and havent played in a couple
months).

I picked up Phoenix Wright- Ace Attorney a few days ago but
havent played it yet. Heard good things though.

Meteos has problems saving on lots of flashcarts, so whils
it's a good game, it might give roygbivcore some problems.

Some of my favourite DS games:

Dead and Furious (AKA Touch the Dead) - A much better game
than the reviews suggest. The graphics are a bit poor for
the DS and the final level is obscenely hard, but other than
that it's really good. Only handheld game to properly scare
me/make me jump when playing alone with the lights out at
night.

New Super Mario Brothers

Wariorware Touched

Worms Open Warfare - Makes poor use of the stylus/double
screen and overall isn't as good as the PSP version, but
it's still an entertaining multiplayer with 1 DS game.

Advance Wars DS (or whatever it's called) - More of the same
as the superb GBA games, but over 2 screens and with a good
use of the stylus.

tell me how this ds rom works. you mean rom on PC or rom via
ds dev?

i dunno was ds dev is but

i got the super card system which is crappy compared to the
others but still works fine

one card goes in the ds slot and overrides the system
software so that data is read from the gba slot which has a
gba shapped cart that reads SD cards

ive been looking at r4 and m3. these seem pretty cool. i
just want to have some mpfrees and shitty cartoons etc off
the net and watch/listen to them whenever. and micro sds are
pretty cheapo now. 4 gigs is about 30 squid which is ok. are
there any ds'sers on here who purchased anything like this
recently?

i recommend Meteos, Puzzle Quest (it's a mix between a
puzzle game and an rpg — sounds weird but it works
perfectly), Sonic Rush (very good old-school platformer),
Tetris DS and Feel The Magic XX/XY (too short but quirky and
really fun).

Just bought a DS Cobalt and ordered a R4DS. So far I
snagged Final Fantasy 3, Final Fantasy 12: Revenant Wings,
and Luminous Arc. Best $160 I've spent in awhile. :]

offline BoxBob-K23 from Finland on 2008-06-12 03:10 [#02215362]

There's also a really good homebrew scene for DS, meaning
games and software made by home programmers to be used with
cards like R4DS. These include some amazing games, like
Quake DS, Lemmings DS (this one is a must!!) and a whole lot
of weird little games and applications. Then there's the
emulators. So yea, there's a lot to go around.

accross the phrase 'grinding' lol...

Anyone got Etrian Odyssey?

yea I fucking hate grinders

Of all DS rpgs, only The World Ends With You seems to be
universally considered to be A-class. Zelda is too, of
course, but that's more action than RPG.

Final Fantasy III DS is nice, but very old school and not
for everybody.

Mario and Luigi 2: Partners in Time should be good, if you
can stand the concept of it.

The same for Pokemon Diamond/Ruby. If you can swallow your
pride, there's probably a great game there somewhere.

But there are some potentially really fantastic RPG's on the
horizon: 1) Final Fantasy IV DS, which I've heard nothing
but good things about. 2) Final Fantasy Tactics A2. 3) Sonic
Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood (developed by BioWare!). 4)
Avalon Code (another high production value J-RPG).

Good RPG's are hard to come by, but really, who needs more
than one or two at any given time?

That Sid Meier Civilization looks interesting. I'll have to
get a "backup" of it. I wish Koei would release a Romance
of the Three Kingdoms game for DS. Just port over #4, and
I'll be very happy.

I let it charge for about half an hour, and then began
playing as it charged the rest of the way. Works like a
charm. :)

Can anyone tell me what kind of flash card I would need to
be able to get ROMs and homebrew stuff on my DS? I'm already
in love with this thing, can't wait to see what else it can
do.

As for flash cards, there's so much out there that you're
going to have to do your own research. Everybody will have
his or her own opinion about what's best. R4DS is good at
least.

I ended up buying a CycloDS and a 4gb SDHC card to go
along with it. I'm very pleased with the build-quality of
the Cyclo, and the user interface it comes with is nice,
too. Overall I'm quite happy with it.

Now to get some NES and SNES roms and emus on there... if it
can be done.

er, CycloDS Evolution, I should have said. There are
two other models of the CycloDS but neither offers as many
features as the Evolution.

I wish I new about the Cyclo before I bought my R4. I think
I'm going to pass it off to my friend and buy a cyclo. My
main reasoning for doing such a thing is that the Cyclo
group updates their software WAY more often than R4 does.
Plus R4 only recognizes up to 2gb microSD, which isn't a big
deal IMO.

offline Zephyr Twin from ΔΔΔ on 2008-06-19 16:11 [#02216917]
Points: 16982 Status: Regular | Followup to revpersona: #02216894 | Show recordbag

yeah. The R4 seems high quality and I almost purchased one.
Luckily, I found out before buying one that the R4 has
basically gone out of production, and updates will be few
and far between (if any more are released, at all) whereas
the Cyclo is still being produced and tech support is
available if needed. Also, the ability to use SDHC cards was
a factor in my decision, and as you said the Cyclo can make
use of them.

Yea, the only problem with r4ds is the lack of updates and
the 2gb limitation. I might want to try changing to a
different card if some newer games refuse to run, but I
haven't encountered any problems yet. In fact, everything
has worked 100%, including GBA roms, emulators and apps.

The World Ends With You

been addicted to this for about a month now, just completed
it but now have to play the whole thing again with the extra
missions to get the second ending

FFIII DS was good retro fun

Mario Brothers DS also good nostaligic gaming, but too
short.

Got a SNES emulator but its a bit pants.

Apart from that, I like puzzle games, and my missus steals
it from me all the time to play the Brain Training things.

Playing FFIV remake right now. I was playing Front Mission
which was great, but FFIV is complete nostalgia. Times have
sure changed since the early 90s.
