in "the state of electronic music", let's say since the proliferation of early house/techno/electro/hip hop/club music
which artists and labels do you think have made their own unique particular special contribution to music & the world today/of the future
i don't mean which are the great artists and labels i mean who has made a particular contribution that had a real influence, a rare or unique contribution that others haven't originated and how/why
for example, matey released so and so on x records and it was called acid in the title and it had a 303 in
or, y made it ok to listen to a diverse range of music rather than being so restricted to few established genres
or, z released loads of really rare collectable records that go for loads of money but are actually all rubbish
or, so and so released the first heavy set of drum n bass/dubstep/whatever that set the benchmark
i'd be interested to learn from all the opinions of say just one particular artist and label you choose that springs to mind first and foremost. remember, it's much more constructive to be positive than critical, and harder?
i guess i mean innovators and originators only, the first of their breed
then again, i am the first person to tell myself to shut up, but it might give the messageboard a thread about music for a change?

The original 4 lads who really developed detroit techno have to be given a large slice of the credit IMO. So many other genres/artists borrow ideas from them.

well for the whole mix of noise & computerish music, i love the mego label (pita, farmersmanual, hecker, fennesz, haswell), they did loads of awesome computer music & many crappy artists did copy their style.
not really house&hip hop but the mego is a kind of a cornerstone for wicked music (+ also their crush on laptop for live improvisation before everyone else i think)
& its still a strong label (hecker, quintetavant, KTL)
