I'm too lazy to read the fine print at mp3.com and besides
they'd probably try to mislead me, but I want to know if
mp3.com has any say-so or power over your songs. Like, could
they prohibit you from signing to a label or something with
the songs u have uploaded there? Also anybody feel free to
share any info or experience they've had with labels. I have
none.

i am on mp3.com
as far as i know, it is a non binding agreement. you can
leave at any time. i think that the only way problems could
arise would be if you want to leave your songs on mp3.com
and also go on another label. many labels would want you to
take the songs down. but i dont think mp3.com cares.

i'm on mp3.com.
What is on mp3.com is copnsidered theirs/yours. If you were
to re-release an old track you have to get permission, or
take it down. What label are you going for?

Speaking of which! i'm suposed to be producing my press-kit!
not jibberjabing on this board!

oh yeah, and do NOT send a mp3.com cd to a label, they know
that it supprots universal, and will throw it away

That's cool, I'm hoping that's how it goes... if you get on
a label simply delete your mp3.com songs and they no longer
own them in any way...
I'm just trying to get info about labels right now. I'd of
course want to be on one of my favorite labels like anyone
else, for me Musik aus strom, schematic, warp but so far I
havn't made anything complete enough or good enough to send
them. I wouldn't send one of those mp3.com cd's, good tip
though.

heh...you should send multiple demos to big mainstream
labels like...arista, virgin, def jam, etc...just to freak
them out...'twould be funny...though probably not worth the
effort

Funny indeed, but proly a waste of money. If it weren't for
money I'd have done it already...That I think they'd try and
give me some shit contract...

yeah...but the few minutes of confusion/annoyance of some
drone at one of those big labels is worth the postage!

I love those labels that are purely in it for the love of
music, like the one fakesch and de luca (funkstorung)
started... musik aus strom... then again, I'd want money
from anybody that wants to give it to me (or more likely a
small fraction, the rest of which they'd keep
themselves...)... Of course it's pointless since people just
download music for free now. I wonder what it's like to
start your own label, I wonder if you need loads of money,
or if you need, like, a big factory that manufactures cd's
or something... *m wonders until he's hungry then eats a
sandwich

actually i've been thinking of starting my own label myself
with a friend. the only hard part is taxes...i mean anyone
can actually start a label...especialy if your studio is
your bedroom :)

but you'd never be able to mass produce... 100 copies even
would take all your free time to make, of one album... you'd
want lots of albums from lots of artists though probably.
