A bit of a rip off init?
You could hook up a normal deck to your PC for the same
effect.

Nice idea, but it is impossible to buy tapes anywhere.
Tapes weren't rubbish as the website states. Tapes had their
own character and let me record music off the radio and were
an integral part of my youth.

some songs still sound better on tape than anything else,
due to that lovely compression and stuff that goes on. Hard
disk crashes aren't half as much fun as untangling tape.

Without tapes, no dub.

looks like it, if you look at the rear panel. That was my
point, hard to find tapes anywhere now.

Tapes are my favourite medium, really. I still have very old
tapes that fair well after years of playing, yes there
genuinely is a quality to the sound unheard on vinyl of
whatever, I like the size, the look, ... the sound. If I had
an album out I would release it only on cassette (and then
blame that for being the reason no one bought it)

Some music sounds better on tape.
It's like a visual artist uses different mediums for
different effects...tape deffo has its uses.
Plus I love the way the more you listened to an album on
tape, the more it became a personal experience...the tape
wear could even enhance the experience (at least for me).
I've never felt the same way about music on digital
formats.

I've even heard stuff on MP3 I used to listened to on
cassette and it doesn't sound as good (not the same anyway).
I love tape (worms)

Wu Tang Clan - Da Mystery Of Chessboxing

sounds better on tape

Lidl still sell 5 packs of C90s. I still use tapes for my
car stereo.

Do Lidl do .. (Do Lidl do, sounds like a 50s song) ahem, do
Lidl do perchance empty DVD and CD cases? As, that's what I
need, as all my CDs are now... loose in a bag which, I
believe, is a far from ideal storage "solution".

I have seen empty DVD cases in there before, but I don't
know if it's regular thing or if it was one of their
temporary "specials". If I recall correctly, they weren't
particularly cheap, either way. I don't have any shortage of
empty cd cases (I have loads left over from my youth of
buying PC magazines with cover CDs as well as from old
releases of software in work), so have never looked
for/noticed those.

As to a temporary 'solution', at least until you're a bit
more settled in one place, have you considered getting one
of those massive "8 cds per double page" case logic cd
wallets. You can get stupidly large ones that hold literally
hundreds of CDs.

Yerrr, I think I may go for the "case logic" solution..
solution, seeing as I seem to make a habit of upping and
leaving. I did see some empty DVD cases in WHSmiths but they
were about a quid each and.. then you could buy some quite
decent films in there for 3 quid, so.. oh I don't know, ...
well the Future's only just round the corner when
Apple/Microsoft join up and create the Life OS and all your
music and films will be stored in the walls of your house on
tiny data panels that can be voice activated from the toilet
and beamed onto any surface and all this talk of physical
media will sound oh so archaic.

Yes, the £1 empty cases is what puts me off: as you say,
you can get ones with films in for not much more. Ideally
you'd want them to do a pack of 30 of them for a tenner or
something like that, but instead it's usually a pack of 5
for £5.

I ripped a load of tapes a few months ago, the mp3s are good
considering I had a lot of those tapes for 10 years +

Why not just order them from Amazon?
They do 100 single DVD cases for £8.46 or 100 double for
£9.45

Blimey, you're right as well. That's quite a step down from
five for 3.99 in Smiths... you're one wise consumer, we must
go shopping together some time.

Bugger me that's a good price. If anything, 100 is overkill
for most people's caseless DVDs, you could split that
between 2-3 people. Still, for our man Dogvomit it's just
the ticket. I shall have to check with her indoors about
putting up a few more DVD shelves in light of this
information.

Been looking for a tape deck for a while. This is probably
too clean sounding though. Still i might get one if i canb't
find any others.
