Here Come the Warm Jets or Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy) or Discreet Music, depending on what you want. either way you're sure not to lose.

Another Green World has a bit of everything, so I'd start there.
Here Come the Warm Jets, Music for Airports, and On Land are my favorites though.
Hearing Discreet Music on the radio late one night is what got ME started.

I recommend starting with the anus of Brian Eno. One time, at nintendorks.com, this was this guy named Brian Allen, and during a session of the DRC's, aka 'daily reader comments', someone mentioned that they thought his name was Brain Alien. True story.

for the ambient end, i think the first one i ever got a hold of was Music for Films. on the pop end, it was another green world. it took a while to get into the pop stuff because my expectations were fucked. Here Comes the Warm Jets seems like as good a place to start as any.

An Ending (Ascent).
No, I'm not being sarcastic, or trying to be humourous. "An Ending" is probably my favourite Eno track and is a good, accessible introduction to his work.

Yeah, do the ambient stuff first, some of the other stuff will put you off otherwise.
