Hi. I've created a track after spending weeks immersed in various SNES/Megadrive games. It's nothing like anything else I've made, and nobody (including my label) has liked it so far. Any takers? Its at my myspace and it's called "Dr Synth FM".

essence of congs? i'd go with just slapping a bit of TNT on it... if it had that musky smell, god, i'd ride it in an instant.

ok I'm 1/3rd way through and its sounding pretty good, but it needs something to cut through all of it. There is nothing to really latch onto in the "foreground".
I think get some tight slighlty compressed and v.v. slightly distorted drums to pull it off.
Nothing fancy. A 4 to the floor 909 will do, just do NOT use reverb on it and make it muddy like the rest of the track.
I'm talking about fast attacks, nice compression going on.
listening to it now in realtime, I'm at the 3/4 point and I've had enough. the first 1/3rd was fresh but it just looses it a bit after the half way point
Can I suggest you chop it in two. Add drums to the first half as suggested, then I think you will have an awesome track.

So what if it sounds nothing like Cognessence, why repeat yourself? Don't want to end up like Aphex Twin.
Keep doing what you're doing, feel free to experiment as much as you like - and don't listen to any advice ever, you don't need it.

I can see what you mean, but myspace has done something particularly odd to this track; I know it affects the quality of all uploaded music, but it's made this one sound particularly muddy and lacking in any sense dynamic contrast. There's a lot going on that seems to have been lost.
Anyway, thanks for listening sirs. I think I'll take it down and stick to doing ... other stuff. I'm working on tracks for a new album and a Cognessence E.P at the moment. This is one of those strange one-offs.
