War on drugs in The Netherlands

recently, more and more magic mushroom related articles
have been appearing in newspapers.

A while ago, as some of you may have heard, a young french
girl jumped off a bridge after supposedly having taken
mushrooms. This was the start of the war. Her parents
threatened to sue the dutch government for not having made
shrooms illegal to purchase, and claimed her daughter wasn't
suicidal, which later it turned out, she was. All this while
17 years old, and for some extremely odd reason all alone,
in amsterdam.

The government reacted immediately by promising further
investigation and a number of politicians are now furiously
attempting to ban shrooms from the shops.

Only a week or so ago a new article appeared stating 'MAN
SLAUGHTERS DOG WHILE UNDER INFLUENCE OF MAGIC MUSHROOMS'.

As it turned out, this man had suffered from psychosis and
made this story up, according to several psychiatrists who
examined him afterwards. Naturally, the damage couldnt be
repaired even by clearing this up on the news the next day,
as most people remember only the gruesome things which makes
them paranoid, dellusional hypocrites.

To back these cases up, another story was revealed about a
swiss man jumping out of a window after supposedly having
taken magic mushrooms.

The problem with all this is this:

-most shroom related incidents occur among tourists, who
drink themselves shitless, smoke large amounts of cannabis,
are unfamiliar with amsterdam, unfamiliar with shrooms,
neglect to listen to advice from smartshop keepers who can
obviously tell when a customer isn't sober, take larger
doses than recommended etc.

- investigations HAVE shown that shrooms are in the short
and long term safe, do not cause a threat to a person's
mental or physical health IF that person is mentally sane to
begin with. People who use mushrooms are no danger to others
either.

- hypocrisy. Thousands of people die from alcohol each year
to name just one legal harddrug. tbc

It frightens and baffles me that in this country, where by
the looks of it cannabis isn't going to be banned any time
soon, all this chaos arises all of a sudden over a drug
which isnt nearly as popular and used/abused.

Smartshops could possibly be doing even more to inform their
customers, but in the end, it is everyone's own
responsibility to know or research what you are getting
into.

Banning mushrooms would cause more problems than solve them,
but it seems like a plan set in motion and an unstoppable
plan too. Is it pressure from foreign countries? What is
there to gain for our government by banning this substance?
Let me know if you have the answer.

i think you're overhyping the story a bit.

long story short: in amsterdam you can get shrooms in just
about any souvenir-shop in the city. you can buy these
without any knowledge, or information from the seller on how
to use them. any moron could buy them. specialized shops are
a different story. the outcome of this situation: although
politicians know there's a bit of a hype surrounding the
situation they'll probably ban the shrooms from
non-specialized shops and continue the policy regarding
selling them at specialized shops. probably forcing those
shops to provide customers with flyers containing info on
the do's&don'ts .

i am only passing on information that has been widely
published and talked about. The hype is created by the
media, not by me.

you made this thread about a supposed war on drugs while
there isn't any. you're overreacting, IMO. none of both
articles point to a war on drugs whatsoever. take a
chill-pill.

are there shops in germany or the netherlands
that sell those legally? how much is a sixpack?
any side-effects like poopin all over the place?

what exactly do you know about this? obviously absolutely
fuck all.

On a smaller scale, the same thing is going on here, as in
the US: spread of false information to instigate fear and
aversion of things unknown. I don't suppose you have any
idea how easily people are affected by articles like these.
Everybody reads the first one, everybody forgets the 2nd. Go
ask random people on the street right now what their opinion
on magic mushrooms is and i can guarantee you that it won't
be a generally positive one.

This is wrong, stupid and sickening.

I was taking antidepressants for irritability but the side
effects were awful. I tried many alternatives and "chill
pill" really does help. When I find myself feeling agitated
for no reason I take one and it definatley makes me feel
better.

Jeroen, are you sure you don't want to take a chill pill?
they really do seem to help.

actually said that shrooms helped with depression. I'll
look for it.

That you abstain from drugs doesn't make them a negative
experience for everyone. I personally don't take shrooms
anymore, and they have been illegal in my country for years,
anyway. I don't mind shrooms being illegal here, but I have
no problem with people elsewhere defending their right to
consume them.

ive been there and done that, i found it to be fairly
pointless, and i think a person is better off without it.

shrooms are illegal here but anytime i want some, all i have
to do is go to the park and look around in the wood chips,
or drive out to the country and turn over a ruminant shit
pile (when in season, of course). banning them won't stop
shrooms from growing nor will it stop people from getting
them if they want them. it will just fill the jails up with
harmless shroom dealers and put a premium on the price. I
agree that it would be constructive to, at least, inform
people of what they are getting into before they jump out of
a damn window though. But U.S.A. history shows that this
war against drugs does not work.
