america, but in october as well!

The MS one was cringeworthy in places. The guy who kept
pausing ROCK BAND was hilarious though.

Shadow Moses was just NINE YEARS before MGS4? omgwtf

Killzone owned E3 though, as one of the 37 card-carrying
members of the Killzone 1 Defense Force, I knew Guerrilla
was going to dominate now that they're not developing on
shitty hardware.

Frankly I'm amazed that there wasn't an ''MGS4 to 360!!!!''
megaton at E3. Amazed. How are they going to recoup the
jillions they spent on this game by releasing it for the PS3
alone? I expected a timed exclusive for PS3 and then a port
to 360 later.

Then again the PS3's future is looking up up up.

offline Brisk from selling smack at the orphanage on 2007-07-11 17:12 [#02101961]
Points: 4667 Status: Lurker

I think its more than likely it'll end up on the 360 at some
point. Maybe Sony are paying them to keep quiet about the
announcement until after the game is first released for the
PS3. If news of MGS's arrival to the 360 came at E3, not
only would heads roll, but wallets would point squarely in
MS' direction.

But why would M$ keep their mouths shut? It would be pretty
unprecedented for a massive AAAAA game like this to be on
the way to a console and nobody says a thing about it. If
MGS really is on the way to 360, Peter Moore must be never
be able to get a good night's sleep, knowing this secret.

It's possible Konami might demand M$ to shut up about it OR
ELSE. That way they can release Original MGS4 on the PS3 and
THEN they can put out the usual enhanced Metal Gear Solid 4
on 360 6 months later and rack up more sales as MGS fanboys
buy the game again (I know I will). I dunno. It all just
seems so strange and illogical to me.

It might be unrealistic but I would hope they're putting so
much content on the Blu-Ray disc that it wouldn't be
feasible to have a 360 version. Anyway it doesn't really
matter, it'll just be interesting to see how it plays out. I
think I expect something like MGS2 for Xbox, a shitty port,
way too late.

God damned, don't taint the game by restricting its size
because "get it on the 360 yeah, make lotsa money yeah"

It's supposed to come with original Japanese voices, etc,
etc, stuff that hopefully, paired with graphics and stuff
like that, makes it too large for a fucking dvd.

Only the power of the Cell Processor can capably render such
exquisite pants pooping.

BTW Silent Hill 5 was announced to little fanfare, with a
pointless 20 second teaser with a GODawful voice over, and a
screenshot that looks like a PS2 game.

Damn.

I always imagined SH5 would be some transcendental visual
arts feast. Oh well, time will tell. I like the premise
though, playing as a soldier coming home from overseas.
Shades of Jacob's Ladder, which of course influenced the
series' style anyway.

piece of shit. In fact the only good one has been the first
one.

Mario Galaxy looks pretty swish.
Killzone looks impressive.
Infamous trailer isn't too enticing.
Haze. Its nice to see a new Free Radical FPS but that
trailer is awful!
Little Big Planet just keeps looking better and better with
every thing I see. This for me is the reason to get a PS3.
Mario Kart Wii looks like more Mario Kart. Online is nice
but I actually laughed out loud at the Wii Wheel.
Army Of Two. 'Think of Bad Boys.' Oh no.

so no plans from the ICO folks?

i also wonder what will be the next Kojima project. ZOE was
boring, Policenauts was in japanese, Snatcher was very much
yummy.

Mario Galaxy looks really great! BEE SUIT! :D Mario is still
heartwarmingly great to see in a new platform game!

Mario Kart Wii looks like Mario Kart DD which was a blast to
play with friends, so I'm excited if they just add new
tracks and some fresh powerups.

Killzone, as generic as the premise may be, entices me. I
just like well built FPS-es, and so far it looks really
good.

Call of Duty 4 impressed me a lot when they demoed it. I got
my 360 with CoD2 and it's still one of the best games on the
platform. Very cool lighting/animation going on, and I'm a
sucker for just that. More so that poly count.

I agree, Haze looks awful! I loved Free Radical's
Timesplitters 2, that was probably their pinnacle of
gameplay right there. Perfect balance of the Goldeneye type
shit and some new directions! Loved the insane amount of
unlockables and challenges. Haze looks terribly generic and
just ... underwhelming.

Stranglehold looks like a slightly beefed up Xbox 1 game.
Uninteresting slow motion (get over it) and boring hype. I'm
more interested in seeing Alan Wake from Remedy, the Max
Payne thing is sooo over.

Army of Two looks alright. Eh, whatever.

Assassin's Creed looks shittier and shittier for each time
they show it. First time it looked pretty amazing, now it
just looks like a badly executed stealth game. Fix it!

MGS4's trailer was as I said quite overwhelming. Fantastic
video by Kojima as always. The MGS story has always been too
cheesy and over the top for my tastes, even though the
trailers always manage to wow the shit out of me, so I'm
interested to see how it actually plays. Not too impressed
by the previous games, so let's see how this one goes.

edga: ZOE is probably going to see more iterations, I think
Kojima's still pretty into it.

after i read a while ago how sick he was making the same
thing all over and over again (mgs), me thinks he'd want to
try something totally new (and if memory serves me right, he
actually said something in that vein). though knowing he
made a sequel to it (zoe), i guess that wouldn't be a big
surprise.

If you plug a controller in while watching the trailer it
feels like you're playing the game already!!!

I'm just irritated by the lack of gameplay in the MGS
trailers. Just the slightest taste of it, whereas with the
trailers for MGS3 (easily the best game in the series,
Indeksikal u so crazy) they showed him stalking through the
jungle, fucking peeps up in increasingly sinister ways. It
was intoxicating. The Octocam looks great but dang, show me
what sneaking through that city is going to feel like, show
the IN-GAME animation. That's what's most important these
days when it comes to presentation.

But I guess it doesn't really matter, it's Metal Gear,
there's no doubt it's going to play great and bring lots of
new ideas to the table. Nothing wrong with focusing on the
narrative, given that everything else is a... given.

Also some of the textures are jarringly low resolution in
places, last-gen quality. It's irksome because the SEXBOMB
character models stick out against them. I keep waiting for
them to bring them up to par, but with each successive
trailer, they never do.

Unfortunately Kojima is probably going to do some shallow
Wii game after this, not another ZOE.

MGS gameplay doesn't remotely resemble anything in that
trailer, it's not really indicative of anything. The
animations were entirely preset.

To be fair the one before this had glimpses of some
characteristically quirky Kojima gameplay details, like the
little robot electrocuting people and Snake turning himself
into a rolling projectile of death. But again, it was all
staged and choreographed. I badly want to see him actually
demonstrate the game in real-time, but I can understand why
they haven't done it yet. The story and premise is so great,
there's no immediate need.

Previous videos of mgs4 show lots and lots of gameplay!

How the fuck do people enjoy ZOE? I played it once, and it
was just endless slaughter of flying robotic enemies.
Boring.

They haven't shown any actual gamplay yet, just staged
gameplay elements, carefully edited, and viewed from
unnatural cinematic angles not representative of what the
actual game will feel like.

Which is fine, it's just to tease, but it's not the same as
a gameplay demo. But they never really do that with MGS
games anyway, they have that swagger and don't need to prove
anything. And it tortures me, so I complain like this.

Indeed, no video but I like what I hear so far

Gamespot link

''While keeping his gun pointed at the enemy, Snake used
his other hand to frisk for items all over the soldier's
body''

Can't wait to feel these guys up, the holdups were a blast
and they're expanding the CQC system... gravy.

''He also seems to have gained a new move that involves
delivering a death grip to an enemy's crotch, rendering that
person unconscious in an instant.''

Hysterical and distinctly Metal Gear, gotta have crotch
grabs. I loved grabbing people's crotches until they passed
out in Subsistence Online, but letting them live, violated
and shamed.

Kojima went on to confirm that gamers would be able to
play through the whole game in a first-person view, and
showed how the Sixaxis' motion-sensing can be used to duck
and peek around corners.

After momentarily scoffing at Metal Gear in 1st person, I
realized that I constantly switch between 1st and 3rd person
views in Thief 3 and Hitman games, it's a great option to
have, especially in enclosed areas, and you're never forced
to use either view. Plus there's something to be said about
stealth in first person and not having omnipotent views
around corners and the like that you wouldn't have in real
life, the first 2 Thief games were particularly immersive
because of that. But freedom is always good, a crazier game
like this needs 3rd person as well. The Sixaxis leaning
thing should be awesome if properly implemented.

Overall, Guns of the Patriots defaults to the same kind
of third-person view as previous MGS installments

Unclear writing, surely he means the Subsistence camera? The
old style would be unacceptable now, Kojima said so himself
so I'm going to assume whoever wrote this sucks as
journalism. Apparently the aiming mechanic is a ripoff of
Gears of War, which is great news.

I always thought of the third-person view as Snake's special
ability: Mantis has psychic powers, Raven has.. something,
Wolf has sniping, etc, and Snake's power is infiltration;
his senses are heightened (like they say the genome
soldiers' senses are (how bad do normal soldiers see?) so he
can accurately predict what is around the corner without
watching.
