Feeling smarter

I know this has been mentioned before but I was just
thinking about it. I dont know why but I feel more
intellegent ( or something on those lines) than most people
because of music taste. Most of the stuff I listen to
(electronic wise) is Aphex twin, BOC, autechre, boc, (rock
wise) KMFDM , bush & silverchair.

All of those atrists have meaning and give out a message and
are original in there own kind of way. When i hear people
talking about bands like system of a down or limp bizkit or
linkin park and say they are awesome and full of meaning i
get almost insulted, tho i dont care much about other
people. Most of those "atrists" put some lame loops , or
guitar riffs together and write cool quotes they see in a
fortune cookie from the night before in their lyrics.

If no one responds to this post, it dont matter, i just felt
like venting i guess, and what better place to do it.

I personally don't think your musical tastes have any
bearing on your intelligence whatsoever, it's like two
different parts of the brain or something

And Silverchair??? *laughs and hides*

What's wrong with them? I need a alternative rock fix every
once and a while and i usually just pop in bush or
silverchair. Theyre not bad, its one of the first rock bands
that popped into my head with a smidge of talent when i
wrote the post anyway...........

I think that it can have an effect maybe... I was listening
to this new Brian Eno album of mine last night, and I must
say, my imagination just ran wild... it sparked all these
images in my head... but that being said, isn't that
exercise for your mind? It's hard to say it makes you more
intelligent, but no doubt it really works your head, and
makes you think, and all that...

I shouldn't have used the word "intellegent" because I guess
it's not a good way to put it. But you get the overall
point.

Silverchair = nirvana wanna bes so bad!

But uh.... so what? Iam friends with people that listen to
stuff on MTV and all that, who like popular trendy stuff,
and they are smart people. Its not the same at all. Its just
your liking. I dont give a shit what anyone listens to.

another thing is, music is only as good as what you bring to
the listening experience... so, if you feel intelligent when
you listen to music maybe it's just that the music maybe
enables you to use different parts of your mind... you're
already smart maybe, but are just using different aspects of
your mind in the listening experience... but who knows?

Limp Bizkit (Especialy Fred Durst), need to die. But Don't

ass...Just listen and you'll understand...

everyone thinks their music taste is better than that of
others'...
i dont really think it is an accurate reflection of
intelligence...
though some forms of music seem to attract more intelligent
people...like classical and jazz and whatnot...which i
suppose a lot of the music we like takes influences from..
i know intelligent people who like a lot of different kinds
of music...including 'unintelligent' types...

plus..making the statement 'i feel more intelligent and
superior to everyone else because i listen to so and so'
comes of as sounding rather pretentious and elitist dont you
think?
and since the genre has already been dubbed 'intelligent
dance music'...we already have a strike against us in that
department...we dont need to back up other's preconceptions
of us as pretentious nerds do we?

And I wouldn't say smarter, just more open to what music is
about. And to what "talent" actually means, rather how
people see it...

Sorry people, i now feel like an idiot lol. I completely
worded my thoughts in the wrong way. Lemme see how i can put
this, I enjoy talent and originality and when i hear
peopletlaking about stupid stuff as being genius that
bothered me, only friends tho, other people i dont really
care about. thatbetter? heh, but all of u make good points
aswell

I read in my psychology book last semester that listening to
music is a highly intelligent activity... cause you're
interpreting the different melody lines, the drums, the
singing (if there is any), the lyrics (again, if there is
any), etc, etc... so again I repeat, listening to music is
exercise for your mind...

Hahahahahahahaahahahahaha... people into electronic music
tend to be smarter than the average bear, much more
interesting in general... so we have a right to feel
superior and elite. Giggle. I've always felt like a genious
compared to the idiots that surround me, I'm such an
arrogant bastard intellectually. Anyone who doesn't listen
to music I deem ''intelligent'' is a stupid monkey that
isn't quite evolved yet... that's my screwed up view. :-)

yeah...i guess your musical preference says more about your
open mindedness..
which in some ways can be better than intelligence
anyways...theres nothing worse than an opinionated, close
minded intelligent person...they tend to be known as 'smart
asses'
i guess you can say open mindedness can lead to greater
intelligence though...
since an opinionated, close minded stupid person..just stays
stupid

I think musical taste reflects the intelligence of people.
For instance, people into Korn & Limp Bizkit tend to be
complete idiots.

I don't believe the music one listens to reflects their
intelligence... but there's something I can't deny... in
general, the people I know that are into Bizkit and similar
bands are stupider than those that scoff at those bands...

well i agree with jarworski that your taste in music has
nothing to do with your intellegence level.

but i must add that music has its own levels of
intellegence. i listen mostly to progressive, cause IMO its
the most intellegent music out there. thats why its called
progressive, its intellgently pieced together, complex, and
skillful.

If you have to label my taste in music, i would say im a
metal head, but one of my favorite bands is dream theater,
and they are far more superior than most artists from any
genre...

i think what the funkmaster said (i think it was him) is
that with this kind of music there is a lot more detail to
pick out... it may make you feel more intelligent but it's
more that you can notice things better, the "little things"
seem more vibrant (sp) to whatever sense receives the type
of stimulation.

i think autechre and BoC effected me the most... when i
first listened to these artists i was bored or what not...
but as i forced myself to listen i began to notice a lot
more in the music. such as sounds intereacting... and the
formation of mental imagery.

the people that listen to mainstream music don't get the joy
of the artists place detail within the music... drums, bass,
guitar, and vocals. the element thats only up for
interpretation in "pop" music is the vocal... and drums for
their feet to interpret too. pop music is intended to just
be "popped" in and almost be comes the background, or a
"mood setter".

electronic on the other hand is "listening music".

hope that made some sense, i'm damn tired.
