America?

I agree and I'm sure most Americans do, nobody ever
complains about or even mentions the tits on The Sopranos
or... uh... I don't really know anything about TV except for
the Discovery and History Channels, and they're Canadian
channels, but there MUST be other shows with boobies, on
those cable channels. I wouldn't worry too much about it,
it's more a laughable relic from a prude past, unchanged
because of no immediate need, than a sign of any national
emotional pathology.

I dono if that's totally true - remember the total furore
when Janet Jackson's tit popped out that one time? Over here
it would have been giggled over and shown on one of those
crappy TV_Clips shows endlessly... over there, it seemed to
cause some kind of National Outcry!

That's because the conservative media has somehow
accumulated a lot of power and like to make a big fuss. I
believe a very vocal and VERY obnoxious minority was
disturbed, and the fuss took on a life of its own. With
these Paris Hilton and Janet Jackson and whoever stories, I
dunno, I'm Canadian, but it seems I can feel almost the
entirety of North America groan at this shit. This kind of
thing is a sensationalistic joke more than a legit concern.
You see sober minds condemning the condemners on the
internet, you see it in the papers, you MIGHT even see it on
''news'' roundtables on CNN if the powers that be feel like
an argument with stacked odds would be good TV, but you can
bet SOMEBODY with a lot of power wants to make it seem like
a very big deal. It really isn't. They just WILL. NOT. STOP.
TALKING ABOUT IT.

Rupert Murdoch I suspect sets the tone for most of the
conservative media in America. He's Australian. I think
there a lot of Rupert Murdoch's in the world. Ophecks has
got the idea. I'd listen to him...Seems like people have got
America all figured out by reinforcing their own prejudices.

"a laughable relic from a prude past, unchanged
because of no immediate need" I like that. I suspect its
very true. Habits are hard to break and change scares
people. Some family's hate when their kids say fart but are
Ok when they say damn. I think of America has having its
own set of pet peeves handed down through generations like
everywhere else.

If you can think at all after surviving the school system
you are very lucky.
