Looks like GTA, I'm pleased to see lots of helicopters and aerial activity. I want to know more about the soundtrack though. This game is so close, holy shit.

The graphical improvement is always welcome, but what kind of new features does the gameplay boast? I've been a fan of the series since it's inception (I miss the 2 dimensions of GTA I and II), but I couldn't stay interested in San Andreas, it felt too much like beating a one-trick-pony to death with it's own cock. I dunno, I loved GTAIII, but by the time San Andreas rolled around it had lost its luster. I'd still enjoy trying out the new one, but I don't know if I'll buy it, yet.

Yes I played it. I got bored by the end of the first city and stopped playing it. The only difference between this and the last game was that you can now be fat/muscular/skinny, and buy clothes and get tattoos, and other more or less pointless shit, like going to the gym or taking girls out on dates. Are you serious? Taking girls out on dates, in a fucking game? Honestly, some people need to go outside and have real interactions.

"what kind of new features does the gameplay boast?"
That wasn't a rhetorical question, I'm curious. What are some of the new gameplay features? Like I said the graphics look enticing, and I'd like to play GTA IV.

I disagree, I would say San Andreas was far and away the best GTA and probably the one I had the most fun with and put the most time into. When I went back to the older games, I dearly missed the more liberating aiming scheme, destructible barricades, planes, fast-skip in mission retries, vehicle modifications, player customization (stats were kind of pointless but clothing was great), manual camera rotation, more minigames, the rocketpack, stealth, etc. There were TONS of things added to San Andreas, and the basic design was improved upon. Missions were better balanced and more varied, more challenges yet extra convenience. Most important to me was the addition of the countryside, though that was a pretty polarizing change and a lot of people didn't like the long drives.
I don't know what they're adding in this new one... Rockstar doesn't reveal a lot about their games... but there's no doubt the list of additions and refinements will be extensive. But they're not going to fundamentally change the experience. It's still going to be Grand Theft Auto. Not Crackdown or Huxley or Mercenaries.
And just the basic template of the GTA experience leaves a lot of room for new activities and concepts. Even in the GTA-Stories series, there were lots of new ideas and approaches for missions. Vice City Stories had some of my favorite missions.

And there's supposed to be a multi-player angle too, so I'm getting this for PS3. I don't have Xbox Live Gold :_-( I don't play online enough to justify paying for that. But I might mess around with this if it's fun.

Yeah, I agree that the overall control interface was improved in San Andreas, but I only ever seriously played it on PC, which, in my opinion, has a vastly superior control surface, anyway. So I think I may not have appreciated that aspect as clearly as you did. As you say, the country areas were very polarizing, though I particularly felt neutral about it. I thought it was a good concept, but I hated the long drives, especially on tough missions. I also never made it to the rocket pack, which is my fault I suppose since I stopped playing it. I don't own a PSP so I can't comment on the Stories series. You're right about San Andreas having a host of new features, I guess it's just that none of them really stood out as "revolutionary" in my mind.

Some people don't seem to know this but you could skip a large portion of those long drives if you fail the mission. In the PS2 version I think you click both sticks together or something right after you retry. I mean, I didn't know this because when I fail, I tend to just reload so I never saw the prompt.
But yeah if you're not going to enjoy the game if it's not ''revolutionary'', then... dunno what to tell you. What do you plan on playing instead?

you obviously gave up before uncovering all the greatness of the game. for example, travel times were not a problem after you opened up some of the faster vehicles. planes and helicopters, for example could be flown quickly to a destination, abandoned mid-flight and you could sky dive down to where you wanted to go. personally, i found that the variety of vehicles and terrain made traveling fun. Even the dating, though it seems stupid to you, opened valuable game advantages; get out of jail free for or with all your weapons or whatever. It wasn't just gratuitous.
it really was the most thoroughly realized game i've ever played. it felt like you could do almost anything you could dream up. I trust rockstar will continue with this in the new installment.
i hope, as it looks in the trailer, that you can hang onto the outside of large vehicles, even run around and fight on them ala The Matrix: Reloaded.

Yes, I do that from time to time too. I think it'd be cool to have a mission or two where you're warned that traffic police are out in force and having a zero tolerance policy on traffic violations. You would have to complete the missions without running red lights/bumping other cars, etc. or you automatically get +2 wanted levels.
Personally, I'm looking forwards to Manhunt 2 most as I don't have the time to commit to a new GTA at the moment.

can't fucking wait! my favourite game-series so far. i remember way back when I played Super Mario Land I always wished they would let me roam freely back and forth through the levels after I had completed them. i wanted freedom and i wanted things to be less linear. when gta first came out they gave me that relative freedom and with each new installment my enjoyment and satisfaction have escalated to orgasmic levels. i seriously need to buy new underwear for this one.

Perhaps revolutionary was not the right word. I suppose San Andreas is actually a great game as far as GTA goes. I guess it was just the timing in my life that made me unable to really enjoy it. I was going through a heavy RPG only phase and I just couldnt stay interested in GTA for very long. Though it is my fault for not persevering and playing the whole game through.

Most early engine-based trailers have slowdown. MGS4's original trailer had framerate drops galore but the latest update was 60fps without a hiccup. Have faith in Rockstar. They have faith in you.
