sorry to bug you again but i'm rather in a hurry to get this booked and sorted, as i'm planning to fly out on the 27th or so.
The thing is, i don't have a creditcard. I can pay via debitcard but the car rental place will charge me excess insurance.
I got this reply by email:
a debit card would be fine as a method of payment on the condition you purchase the excess reduction insurance at £11.75 per day.
What is excess reduction insurance, and why do i have to pay for this just for using a different type of plastic?
Also, how much does petrol go for these days?
Cheers!

The reason is that they can scan your credit card and check you're authorised to make a payment of a couple of grand if you knacker the car. If you have a debit card, short of you having an awful lot of money in your current account, they can't verify this.
Personally, unless you lack the self control to not go on a spending spree, I'd get a credit card and just use it for precisely this sort of situation (I had a similar thing when hiring a bike in America).
You going to the UK? Petrol is the best part of £1 per litre. Which hire company are you using?

Sorry i forgot to mention i'm travelling to and within the UK, yes.
I'm renting at budget cars stansted airport.
With my measly paycheck i can't afford a creditcard (i'm just under the minimum limit in order to apply for one). Besides that i only have a number of days left to get payment sorted.
If i knacker the car, i dont see how i could pay for it with or without a creditcard. Either way, i'll be driving like an old woman (with keen eyes though) so as to avoid that situation.

Might be worth getting the extra insurance anyway. It means even if you write the car off you only have to pay a relatively small amount.

from what i gather, if i pay by debit card i have no choice in the matter but to get the extra insurance.
Ah well..

"What is excess reduction insurance"
when i hire cars i pay an insurance thingy, where if i crash i have to pay the first 200 of the damage,....worth checking ask them what happens if you bump the car. (the maxium you have to pay- for example if the car is stolen or right-off )
thats the excess!! might be the first 200 pounds/dollars or even first $1000???
best to ask first.
also last time i hired the front tyre was slashed by a somefkwit
during the night....i had to pay for the new tyre.
so even tho your insured you will have to pay slight damages how much depends on your excess insurance.
blah blah blah ..... blah blah an ting,
