What music do you play when you're in a lousy mood?

Seems like some people put on happy music to put themselves
in a better mood. When I try that, the music just seems
inappropriate and "insincere" somehow. I prefer listening to
music that fits my mood at the time. Even though the music
happens to be melancholic or whatever, it elevates my
spirits.

Not an emo thread, I'm just wondering what you people do.

Right now I'm more grindingly depressed than I've ever had
the great fortune to experience before in a long history of
being down and at the moment I'm listening to Scott Walker's
"Climate of Hunter" and it's about at the right level but I
might need "Drift" to face something bleaker than my current
prosepct.

Singer/songwriters or ambient. Melancholic mood=melancholic
music. I listened to six hours of Townes Van Zandt some time
ago when I had a bad hangover.

when i feel like my life is coming to my end i put on some
neutral milk hotel. when i'm just feeling bad about
something then i'll put on some bowie or queen or something
cheesy like that to pick myself up.

screaming along with Bomb the Music Industry! always makes
me feel better.

also, recently me and my friends who all seem to be
splitting up soon have been getting drunk, cuddling, and
listening to radiohead recently.

having your best friend softly sing motion picture
soundtrack into your ear on the kitchen floor is a beautiful
experience.

I used to listen to Boards of Canada's Geogaddi album when I
felt kind of down. Oh, and Kettel's Through Friendly Waters
album is great for that, too.

I dunno. I want to say ''Leonard Cohen and he brings me out
of it'' but my moods don't seem to affect what I decide to
listen to, though what I listen to affects my mood.

A lousy mood for me happens once every month. Where I feel
depressed & sad and find that the things that suck in my
life suck 10 times more. So I want to cry & lie in bed
listening to PINK FLOYD'S DARK SIDE OF THE MOON :(

Don't get me wrong-I love being a girl :)

Yes, first 4 years is all pre Rollins though, Damaged is
Rollins, classic, also Live '84 is top stuff, and In My Head
is amazing. Greg Ginn plays guitar like no-one else.

some random gabber song of the lot i dled for this special
purpose and when im done with that "have you ever been
mellow" or "scott brown - field of dreams"

usually my moods shift from lousy to angry and then

then i can listen to some serious music again :P

Radiohead, Massive Attack, Portishead and UNKLE most of the
time. Then add some Bogdan on top of that as a transitional
music and then I'm hyper and happy again.
