are you now, or have you ever been?

i've been up all night and morning making this. i haven't
slept.
it's still not finished.
and the mixing on it is probably shit because i've been
using headphones due to not being able to listen through
monitors, but constructive comments are appreciated.

btw, i think i put a bit too much LFO on the oscillator for
my 202 :-s

The first part is good, nice buildup.. reminds me vaugely of
Autechre's "Bike" off Incunabula.

The middle drags on a bit. Nothing much happening there.

Love the third section.. busts out with a fun little beat
and BOCish melody.

Cool song.

thank you very much :)

incunabula has been a massive influence on my recent
output, and i do try to get some BoC style 101 sounds in
there when i can ;)

i wanna try and get my 909 in there somehow (not sure how
yet), and i wanna get some more MachineDrum in there.

also i wanna get some more plinky autechre style riffs in
there, and thicken up the part you mentioned (where it
drags)

thanks for listening :D

i never really listened to autechre and i do not owe
hardware so the most constructive comment id give is that i
like your track even more if i think that you haven't slept
making this

perhaps the BOCish sound you're talkin about, the pad that
starts and ends the track sounds a bit "ahead" in the mix,
some kind of deepness and/or distortion would do the job for
this fuckin ears

gettin some more drums would be fine as well

keep up the good work

firstly, i would highly suggest listening to some autechre -
you'll fit into one of two categories - you'll either love
it or hate it :)

thank you for listening.

yeah the mixing is a bit dodgy, because i had to use
headphones and i couldn't monitor through my speakers, but i
think i did an ok job all things considered. i'm planning on
adding some more drums, and thickening the melody parts.

at the moment there are the following tracks

1. microKORG pad
2. nord pad
3. nord plinky sound
4. nord arp bass
5. mc-202 (BoC sound)
6. (empty)
7. (empty)
8. (empty)
9. (empty)
10. (empty)
11. (empty)
12.TR-808 Bass Drum
13.TR-808 Snare
14.TR-808 HiHats and Maraca
15.MachineDrum ae clicks (left)
16.MachineDrum ae clicks (right)

I like it but think the build should happen faster. Lovely
sounds.

This is awesome! It reminds me of some of the earliest songs
me and a mate used to make, but mostly because of the
sounds. If the detuned one that comes in towards the end is
the one you thought you'd put too much LFO on (varying
pitch?), don't worry: It works great!

i have to agree with all the reactions above here, though
i'm quite dissapointed that it somehow ended kinda open.
Right where i thought stuff was going to happen for sure,
the song ended abruptly ! :( Anyways it was still a good
track nonetheless, and i'm deffinatly looking forward to
hear more new works from you.

Off topic, but I was passing Widnes yesterday and thought of
you. I liked the track, but felt it could have built up
sooner. I also think it would have been nice to have more of
an outro. I particularly like the thing the hihat starts
doing around 2.33 and overall the sounds used were good.

it makes me feel sad. thats a good thing, ill wait for the
finished thing before i comment, although i agree about the
middle needing fleshing a bit.

i'd have to say that yeah, the intro is a little slow, but
it really is abput what YOU like/want

keep up the awesome work dude!

Drunken Mastah
i think the 202 BoC style part was a bit too loud, so i just
brought it in a bit more :) it's still there

Fah
Yeah i kinda wanted it to end like that. maybe if i can
figure out a better way to end it, i'll add the changes :)

Ceri JC
did you leave Widnes with all your DNA intact? hah, that
place has chemicals.

thanks for the comments on the hihats, i've been trying to
improve my hat programming :)

ecnadniarb
thanks for listening :) btw that's a fantastic textual
rendition of a Widnesian accent

Grahf
it's meant to make you feel sad, so if you did, then that's
good. i started the track straight after hearing some bad
news. i needed to keep my head occupied, and making music
was the best way i could concentrate on other stuff.

Taxidermist
heh the MC-202 was the first synth i bought, about 2 or 3
years ago now. back when i was in college i always wanted a
Virus Indigo to be my first synth. oh well. i like the 202
anyways, although i'd prefer a 101 just for the fact that i
can play a proper keyboard better than i can play a VL-1
keyboard!

alan8r
hello there, i don't believe i've seen you around here,
welcome to zilty and thanks for listening.
i am happy with the arrangement on this track, but i think
the drums at the end need a solid snare beat, which might
help give it finality

:)

btw peeps, the latest incarnation of this is up

i've added a couple of synth parts, hopefully fleshed out
the intro a little, and i've added a nice gritty bass for
the outro

latest cut

At this rate you'll have a decent hardware gear track made
in 2257. People that originally made this sort of music,
just did it, they didn't keep making shit for years and
years and years hoping they'd eventually get there. They
might have made good music but not got recognised, but they
didn't just go plink plink plink.. ohh.. add another bit of
"gear" eventually I'll do something half decent.

It's nothing like fucking Incunabula. It sounds like a
couple of notes played on a keyboard and a bit of delay,
then something that sounds vaguely like a BOC-ish detuned
synth from over 10 years ago and .. some drum machines. HAVE
YOU HEARD ANY OTHER MUSIC? HAVE YOU ANY IDEAS?

Yeah I'm back to fucking have a go.
