I thought about 75% of this film sucked - really quite sad - Dante Hicks was terribly acted, Silent Bob speaks (again! OK it's nothing special now and shouldn't have been done in the 1st place), and the storyline was embarrassing in places. I guess this is what happens when you have Harvey Weinstein's cock up your bum hole for a decade - your judgement becomes impaired.
Saying that, there were a couple of funny bits, and Elias was a cutie.

it is at least as good as the first one. very gross, and yet very touching and genuinely feelgood in others.

About the only thing I loved was Jay's homage to Buffalo Bill and the last shot. Shit it even made me download some long forgotten Soul Asylum. But yeah not a patch on the first one, some awful line readings and do us a favour get-your-fucking-wife-out-of-your-movies thank you good day.

I particularly disliked the story arc - not one thing came as a surprise, not one thing seemed to be particularly creative (especially when held up next to Clerks). It just seemed so self-indulgent & smug.
Which one is Kevin Smith's wife?

It's kinda hard to believe it's the same director. It's like some lame Hollywood Director took a rough draft script from Kevin Smith, added a whole bunch of trade clichés, expunged any originality, and then filmed it and let Harvey Weinstein edit it.
My god, this film sucks twice as hard when compared to the first one, it's embarrassing.

i liked the first one, maybe moreso than the second, but really only because it was the first. the second was merely an extension of the first... but, it was done probably just as well imo.
what is so disastrously worse in 2 that was phenomenal in the first film?

Paul just wants the same cultural shock and change that the first one had on society, and II came out and you prol. watched it, liked it, moved on.

Thad, the first Clerks didn't shake my system up, I can assure you... but this film... it's horrid: bad acting, bad script, bad storyline, bad (and smug) direction. Total Film gave this 5 stars! I would give it 2 maximum! I just found it so awfully self-conscious and trying to capture some of the uniqueness of the first film, and falling flat on its face.
Clerks was some tiny independent film snapped up by Miramax filled with quirky characters and stories; Clerks II is some grossly indulgent film following a Hollywood formula without any discernible trace of irony.
"Today is first day of the rest of our lives." Ugh!
BE TRUE TO YOURSELF. OK we get the fucking message, we don't need it rammed into our faces you fucking fuck. Kevin Smith has totally lost whatever little talent he had.

No they haven't! Jay & Silent Bob, yes (and they suck in this film - Silent Bob more than Jay); and I believe Affleck makes a cameo... other than that, the two lead characters haven't exactly become stars since.
I've noted my disappointments with the film.

Clerks 1 changed thad's life because he learned that he actually could slob his own knob after he saw the film. He then never went to parties (probably less than six total) because he spent all weekend self felating.
