I don't make IDM music, just breakbeat and trance. But I
want to creat IDM, can you tell me your hints. The only one
I know is to tweak a drumloop in FruityLoops granulizer, any
more? And does anyone know what program does Autechre use to
name their songs. Thanks.

I don't make IDM myself, but several members of the board
here seem to agree that Reason is a good program for making
this type stuff

There is no method to the madness so to speak .. but yeah ..
what do u use to make breakbeat and trance??? - that should
be fine for doing idm - just have to be in a different frame
of mind

H U M b U G ! ! !

all i hear is "use this fX!" "twiddle that knob!"
"randomly cut & paste that!!"...

forget the production techniques -- concentrate on creating
beautiful melodies, interesting harmonies, natural rhythms
(there is no point just putting your drums anywhere and then
moving them slightly - have vision!) too much of the music
is totally soulless and contrived. too much trying to sound
like Aphex Twin, Ae, or BOC... it may work for a bar or two,
but they can't sustain it, which is fair enough - after all,
AT has been developing for years and this is the result so
far - people should find their own voice and quit trying to
mimick.

so be it.
