Anyone got any good ones?

The Killers = Duran Duran
The Editors = Joy Division
Franz Ferdinand = Talking Heads (heard this one on the
radio, not my idea)
The Tuss = Aphex Twin lol

i hate all of those bands (the exception being the tuss, as
he somehow manages to be the greatest band ever despite
being a single person), but i don't agree with any of that
at all.

all bands borrow from someone... no?

The riff from Walk Away is blatently from The Model.

Yeah, I wouldn't say this is borrowing but their styles. The
singer from the Editors (which may I say is from the tiny
town I live in) is 90% Ian Curtis.

if you want to hear borrowing then listen to any super furry
animals album. all of their songs can be sourced back to
something else.

I need to get into them.

Listening to the Editors album now, and I'm sorry, but if
you can't hear that they're a LOT like Joy Divsion then you
must be deaf.

i think what annoys people the most is when an artist or
band "borrows" material and doesn't bother to reference the
source in any way

and then the fans of this new band are like "yeah, it's
THEIR song"

and when you tell them that it's originally someone else's
they're like "no it's not!"

fucking annoying

The whole Coldplay situation comes to mind. I've had so many
arguments over that. Argh.

Can you give some good examples? This and that SFA-track
sounds like this and that other track?

random song.

Check out Guerilla. My fav SFA-album. Sounds pretty fucking
genuine to me, but if you know something that sounds like
that, then give me a tip :)

haha, what? off the top of my head rings around the
world=beach boys, show me magic=sped-up blue monday. haven't
you felt like you've heard golden retriever or out of
control before? if not then you're the perfect fan for the
super furry animals, since you haven't heard anything before
1990.

i'm a fan of them as well, by the way.

here's a write-up on allmusic:

Super Furry Animals were one of the first post-alternative
bands, fusing together a number of disparate musical genres
— including power pop, punk rock, techno, and progressive
rock — creating a shimmering, melodic, irreverent, and
willfully artsy rock & roll.

all you have to do is read between the lines.

oh, i guess you were taking what i said as an attack on Your
Band. can you really not hear any heavy influences when
listening to the sfa?

Yes, all the Left-Hand groups (except for The Tuss (for
now)), are Awfuls.

i don't know, the tuss gives off a bit of a black sabbath
vibe in spots.

I can hear influences when listening to every cd in my
shelves, but I can't really say that SFA fits in a thread
about new bands that are duplicated of old bands. Maybe I
should check out my Joy Division or Beach Boys cds again,
and compare? Maybe not. Can't really say that SFA is MY
band, but I really enjoy their first couple of albums.

SFA are obviously influenced by the byrds and the beach boys
and some proggy stuff and whatnot but they’re hardly a
replica of another band. Everything after mwng has been a
bit shit though if you ask me, I’ve stopped really paying
attention to them.

Franz Ferdinand doesn't sound like a Talking Heads clone at
all, they do however sound heavily influenced by Josef K.

the first arcade fire album reminded me of the talking heads
a lot more than anything smelly smelldinand has done.

while not necessarily consistently owing to any one artist,
the vast majority of rock bands that are popular today are
brutally unoriginal and derivative.

Yeah, I probably agree with Optimus on that one, but one FF
song (think it might be the end of Darts Of Pleasure) is
very much like Road To Nowhere.

Sorry, I now agree after getting into Gang Of Four that a
LOT of the FF stuff is borrowed from them

Franz Ferdinand = Gang Of Four

Perhaps this:

!!! = Talking Heads (funky Remain In Light era)

Can someone explain who "The Tuss" is comprised of? So it's
just RDJ now? The last iteration of this mystical tale that
I heard involved Brian Trageskin, Karen Trageskin, RDJ,
Santa Clause, Mary Poppins, Mike P., and Jake "the Snake"
Roberts.

If that is true, with you being a member of this community,
how come there are still people here who think RDJ had
something to do with the tuss? You should hire people to
patrol this forum and enforce the truth! It just so happens
my services are currently available for the low hourly rate
of $150.

there are other bands besides the editors that blatantly rip
off joy division, like interpol or she wants revenge.

i think franz ferd sounds more like the strokes whose
vocalist tries to sound like lou reed.

when i first heard coldplay on the radio (song: yellow) i
thought it was dave matthews singing.

believe it wasn't mentioned already)

Yeah, Interpol are also very very much like JD.

Surely Oasis = (a crap version of) Beatles

The Tuss = RDJ working under different names.

Ohhhh man ...

They all want to be bands that wanted to be other bands ...

I really think we should all collectively create a one
hierarchy chart. Bands off the top of my head that are black
listed are interpol they suck suck suck. For those Canadians
out there, they sound like one of our crappy bands called
TRAGICALLY HIP. The singers are identical, except for the
interpol singer thinks he is Ian Curtis, but probably never
hear any Joy Division outside of what was on the Movie
soundtrack he bought that had love will tear us apart or
whatever else ...

Let's open a Google spread sheet and collectively make a
list, I'll pay to publish it meng.
