Having a little trouble getting cubase to play well with my
midi keyboard.

Events are showing up in the transport panel, but don't
appear to be making it to any instrument.

eg;

I have opened a new project, created a midi track, hit F11
and imported the D'Cota VST. I have then set the out of my
midi track to D'Cota.

I then play my keyboard, and the little light shows up in
the control panel but I hear no sound. Hitting the little
picture odf a keyboard in the inspector opens up the D'Cota
VST, but the little red light will not flash when I hit my
midi keyboard indicating that I am not recieveing a signal.

Been a long (2+ years) time since Ive played with any of
this gear or posed on this board, but I'de really like to
get back into it. Anyone got any ideas whats up?

I have checked and I have midi passthru enabled in my
preferences -> midi settings.

You are using the right midi channel? Some VST's are fussy.

Yes, I have tried them all (and also ANY). Thing is... once
I put some notes in manually (using the piano-roll or
whatever its called) these settings work fine and play.

I just can't seem to be able to play with my keyboard even
though it is definitely getting a signal (transport panel
shows it).

I don't know anything about cubase, but are you sure midi
passthru should be checked? Could it be that it just
forwards the signal if it's checked?

In acid, if you want the midi to be sent to the plugin, you
have to create a midi track in the sequencer and tell that
where to send the received midi data... Also, maybe you have
to record enable?

According to a few docs Ive found, yes, passthru needs to be
enabled. In fact I get nothing showing up at all when I
disable it.

Have you set the midi in on your instrument channel to
coordinate with the keyboard?

Yes... this is the bit I don't get. It should be working.

Now is the incoming midi channel set to omni or 1.

There is probably 30 different simple places you could have
a problem at. If you can upload it, I can try to get it
running on my version of cubase and tell you where the
problem is.

Sorry... you've lost me with the omni bit. I dont see any
such setting.

Upload what? The project? I have cubase running on an old
Windows machine, unfortunately though... all my other
(networked) machines are Linux... so yeah... basically, the
machine with cubase is not online.

PS; this happens with ALL and any VST. even those that come
with cubase.

I'm not sure how much help it will be. This was the last

cubase.

Any help Much appreciated.

Any ideas as yet Taxidermist ?

I have to fix my version of cubase (haven't used it in a
while)! I was able to get a sound out of it, so maybe you
need to adjust your global midi settings in cubase...

I will give you some better ideas when I get to fix cubase
tonight.

No worries. It does seem I'm getting some signal though, so
I'm not sure my global settings aren't working.

As I said, I get a signal showing up in the transport panel,
I just can't figure out how to get it through to an actual
vsti.

Maybe you have to assign the vst to a record-enabled track?

Hmm...

Check the IN of the track, is it assigned to receive your
k-board?

Yes. It all there in my original post. Damn this is
frustrating. :)

Original post talks about midi track OUT, I talk about the
IN.

IN midi track - Your KB
OUT midi track - VSTI

But dunno...

Maybe a screenshot is possible?
Also, if no VSTI works, could be a midi configuartion
issue...

Ok... sorry. Yes I have also setup the midi in. Sorry, its
not like I haven't done this before, I understand however
that your trying to help, and I know its probably something
simple.

Here is a screen shot. As you can see down the
bottom in the transport panel, there IS midi signal getting
in. I just cant seem to route it to any vsti.

I'll provide more screens of my settings if need be but I'm
currently on dialup and its a little frustrating.

I'm sure I have them correct. I have a device 'EDIROL UM-1
[Emulated]' selected and Active is 'Yes' in the All MIDI
ports section.

Thanks once again.

Hmmm...

I'm at work so can't check anything, but...
Have you tried to activate the speaker icon (on the side of
the record enable button), that's the bypass for audio
tracks, so maybe also lets bypass the midi when not
recording...

Anyway, as u state, possibly the dumbest of all
possibilities is the one passing unnoticed.

Yeah Ive tried all that as well. Its not just that there is
no sound. I get sound when I hit the a1's keyboard with my
mouse, but the little red light at the top of the a1 does
not light up at all, indicating its getting no signal.

I sear, this thing is going out the window soon :)

I'll download the project and take a look home.
No more ideas right now...
