UC-33e Question:

ATTN: anyone using an Evolution UC-33e, Mr. Quoth has a
question:

Can one CC knob control multiple instruments ie; MIDI
connected devices such as an Elektron SPS-1 or Yamaha AN200?
I would very much like to be able to control multiple
functions with one knob and have a lot of those knobs but
you know what I mean?

i doubt that you will be able to do this without any
additional soft.

eventually you could try it like this: solder yourself some
midi cable splitter that you have one plug on one side and
two plugs on the other side so that the same signal goes
thru them both and connect those to your two boxes - now a
turn of a knob sends it's value to both boxes. but i guess
you want to use the knob just one time for every box right?

now - it depends on the hardware if it'll work or not: you
have to search if the boxes have an option like "master midi
channel" the x-station has this option for example.

make the machinedrum master midi channel "1" and the an200
midi channel "2" so now the machinedrum will only get
messages from the first midi channel and the an200 only from
the second.

now make two presets on the uc-33 - on the first preset the
knob sends its value on channel one and on the second preset
it sends value on channel two - voila! now you control one
box with the first preset and the second box with the second
preset.

but there is only one problem that might spoil the whole
thing and that's probably the reason why nobody does it:

you see - when you control one box and let's say you are
controling the machinedrum and you are turning the knob to
the hard left. now you change the preset to the an200 and
you turn the knob to the hard right. now when you change the
preset back to the machinedrum the knob position is false
and it will punch in the new value...

that's why the behringer bcr2000's are so cool - encoders.
with those you can control as much gear as midi channels you
have because the value of the knob will just pop into the
right position when you change the preset.

hope that was at least a bit clear

It depends on the gear. In theory, yes it is certainly
possible to control multiple devices with one knob. You just
need to figure out how your gear needs to be set up. I use
logic, so its very simple to make an object in the
environment window that routes the midi signals. im sure
there is a way to set on your hardware "receive incoming
midi on channel: "
and if you are running all of these midi connections
together or through a hub like a midi time piece, then you
can send that signal to all ports, and each synth will
receive those midi messages.

I understand, but it just seems so difficult to program. I
am lost with all this gear and not enough friends to
actually sit down and jam with on it. And express these
ideas.

Anyone watching Jay Leno and this fucking 10 year old
annoying ass bitch?!?

WTF.

Also,

To back up my audio/midi routing capabilities, I currently
have running on my two main computers one of them being a
XPC 2.3GHz 2GB DDR2 XP PRO sp2 w/Ableton Live 5.2.2, REAKTOR
5, Absynth 3, FM7, Nord G2 editor, and etc... point is the
options to route audio has triggered certain thoughts about
controlling more of the detailed samples you are making and
want the listener to concentrate on.

if you just need the knob to send the same data to multiple
gear, just use midi thru conectors

if you want to do like sadist say, it's probably easier to
buy/use another controller

i've been much more interested in this THE MONOME 40. But
the UC-33e has come in VERY, VERY handy especially when you
need more automation recording inside ableton.... it has
been a life saver to mixing in infinite tracks since using
it.

please check out the monome :) i NEED this.

old news mate - but have you seen the price ? jeez they have
a bit overdone it.

depends on how you would use it - the whole
cropping-samples-daedelus-like-playing can be easily done in
reaktor with w midi kontroler consisting only of illuminated
buttons.

and the rest actually too
