The Ace Of Clubs (Luke Vibert): Benefist

From what I've heard it's very, very good. A good slice of
Acid with tongue firmly in cheek in places. This has a good
chance of being one of the best albums to come out this
year.

Samples:

Smallfish

Boomkat

I hearda bit and sounded like the same old same old, what
were the odds?

Still, Acid, it's all good (apparently)

Vibert is a solid producer, he's consistent and that's what
counts for me.

I agree. He's very good at what he does though. His love i
guess.

Solid producer.. good at what he does... well he's never
troubled the charts or moved beyond being one of Aphex's
mates, so.. whatever he does... yeah, he's sure been lucky
to have had the opportunity of doing it over about 20 albums
and still doing the same sort of thing.

offline Tanzorgel from london on 2007-05-09 19:00 [#02081242]

He's criminally underrated, just as good as Aphex Twin and
the other vaunted masters of electronic music.

the first ace of clubs was fantastic; looking forward to
this one...

pre-ordered :)

The charts aren't relevant. He has covered enough ground
musically with his various aliases, albeit in the field of
dance music, I wouldn't say he has been doing the same thing
for the last 13 years; refining certainly, not reproducing.

offline The_Shark on 2007-05-09 19:28 [#02081260]

Well, he's cornered the niche in touch in cheek, Carry On
Acid, not quite dance music wink wink, it's all a bit of
fun, overlook the bad tracks.... I like the guy but I find
his music lacking, I've bought and subsequently thrown away
enough of his albums to feel able to say so. What tracks
would constitute a Best of Vibert?

offline The_Shark on 2007-05-09 19:29 [#02081261]

"touch in cheek" possibly meant "tongue in cheek" as written
by a very tired man.

offline Tanzorgel from london on 2007-05-09 19:47 [#02081276]

Ceephax is more Carry on Acid. I can appreciate that you
find his music missing that 'something' for you, but I think
we are just going to be taking about matters of taste.

I'll compile a top ten of Vibert, post it in a few days,
this new album has got me in the mood to get his stuff on
rotation again.

The 12" he released as Ace of Clubs from 2002 is still the
best thing ever. Those samples sounded promising, but I know
they'll be 10x better when the full album drops. I'm looking
forward to hearing it.

Vibert's been a bit mediocre lately... Last Wagon Christ
wasn't very good, and the Planet µ stuff doesn't sound as
good as him at his best. Kerrier District 2 and Spac Hand
Luke were both really good, though.

really like his kerrier stuff but dislike pretty much
everything else.

dunno about album of the year (justice already won that for
me :P ) but i shall be looking forward to this one. . .

I've ordered it along with some releases that aren't out yet
(pre orders) and I haven't got a confirmation from Boomkat.
Will I only get the confirmation email once these releases
are actually out?
