I bought a webcam the other day so I could do some programming with it. If you have a webcam, please download the app and try it out, and let me know if it works or not. It's fun. Post some pics! |

Sorry, you can't change effects yet without recompiling the app, since I haven't made a user interface yet. The mirror is the most fun effect anyway, by far. Post some fugly mutant ogre pics. Why not mirror your penis? Hey ladies, lets see some 3-boobs like in Total Recall! |

I eventually want to be able to record videos and put them into the computer for manipulation (for example to make my own 'spinning head' instead of finding a gif on google, though I'm too introverted to use my own head.) Should I get a 'webcam' then or a camcorder or digital camera that records videos or what? You should make your own spinning head with like 256 frames or something- only problem is I don't know if there's an easy way to make all the frames into seperate jpgs or whatever. I'm really looking forward to programming again when I get a computer. Visual animation is the new IDM. (that way the M and the I and D are nondescriptive). What does this program do anyway- like you can make mirror videos of yourself in real time? (someone posted a link to youtube or something of someone that did that (played 'catch' with their own arm, etc))() |

Yes, right now the app mirrors the video in real-time. I've got it set up so I can do pretty much any effect on the video. So far I've only coded some simple ones like pixelate, colour reduce, blur, mirror. Yeah, it was me who posted that YouTube video. It's what made me buy a webcam. |

One stupid thing I would maybe try recording your face facing straight ahead in the 'normal' position, then focus on each part of your face independently. For example your eyebrow could animate from 'normal' to 'up' back to 'normal'. Make like 5 different animations of the eyebrow alone that go from normal to some unique eyebrow position then back to normal. Then do the same thing for the eyes, nose, mouth, etc. Then each facial feature could randomly select which animation to take (possibly speed and other variations too) indepent from the others. The result might look weird like you're getting electrocuted in some retarded way (not mirror symmetry either so one eyebrow would take different random paths than the other. and since they all return and start from the 'normal' frame, then can fluidly enter any of the other animations). |

It was actually quite difficult and annoying. First I tried using the WIA (Windows Image Aquisition) API, which allowed me to grab images from the camera, and was really easy to get working, but it took 5 seconds to capture 1 frame. So apparently WIA is only good for taking a single, still, picture, and I switched to DirectShow. Let me tell you: DirectShow is ant hell. As for posting YouTube videos: I haven't added a way to record the video output of my program yet. I guess I could use some sort of video capture software but whatever. Anyway, I think this sort of software toy is fun. I bet there are lots of people out there who would have fun playing with it. I also have a mode where it can overlay an image (with parts of it cut out), and the video is displayed behind it... so you can do stuff like that . I'm sure there are people who would love using that to make videos and put them on YouTube. |

hey im looking to buy a webcam ...not to be social or anything :( just so i can record light onto my computer. all these companies are lie-ing bastards . saying 60 squillon pixels at 3000 million fps there is no way a usb2 cable can handle that unless with severe compression haha having said that may i type .. i love Divx it is a modern marvel and just freaking awesome why do we need any other form of video comression?!!? i salute them. best webcam anyone?? |
