As you can see, MUSIC can get you pretty fucked up...Take a tip from Joe, do like he did, hock your imaginary guitar and get a good job...Joe did, and he's a happy guy now, on the day shift at the Utility Muffin Research Kitchen, arrogantly twisting the sterile canvas snoot of a fully-charged icing anointment utensil. And every time a nice little muffin comes by on the belt, he poots forth...

there are two decent cheap cds with a good selection of live stuff from lots of albums.
they are called: cheap thrills son of cheap thrills
should be fairly easy to find and are a good starting place. also some of the live versions are awesome :)

hot rats waka/jawaka over-nite sensation the grand wazoo
as far as i'm concerned, cheap thrills/soct are pretty dreadful.

if you just want the electronically composed stuff though, Jazz from hell is a good place to start, and Civilisation phase III is the place to go after that....
civilisation is very tough going though

i dont think aphex twin can compose as complexly as that song from jazz from hell but the sound palette used on that album is god awful. If you can handle synclavier sounds i could see how it would be enjoyable but i cant.

cheap thrills dreadful? Hmm, I don't know about that. I really love the sense of fun you get listening to some of the live sessions. It makes me laugh and smile listening to them all giggle as they sing and oh I dunno.
jazz from hell has been on my "need to get" list for yonks now. It's the one all done on the synclavier isn't it? I've only heard a couple of tracks from it, but just the words ZAPPA+SYNCLAVIER makes me very excited.
P.S. The synclavier is my fav+ synth ever.

yea the sounds are pretty dreadful and i'm not a huge fan of the album as a whole, but that song is sublime, even the sounds.. they work together and suit the composition itself so well.
dave_g: i'd advise getting it then. as i said above, i'm not a fan of this stuff, or of his "song" stuff.. i just like his instrumental jazz work mostly.
but if the synclavier is your favourite synth ever, then... what're your waiting for?
