Eternal September About Eternal September Wiki Page explaining the term "Eternal September"
we were in yr3 with miss silwood she was so annoying she use to shout and have a go at us for the simplist things then when anyone else was there she would pretend she was nice which reminds i saw her in the body shop the other day.

we've disabled comments until we hack together a comment rating system.. since comments on blogs are invariably incredibly dumb and akin to the sort of stuff we're reviewing on the site

hmm I don't really like it. Surely it would be a more worthwhile exercise to highlight the positive points of the web, rather than all the dross.
Also I thought eternal september was a reference to the fact that when the internet was mainly an academic thing, every september the new intake would discover usenet, and wouldnt understand the etiquete. It would take them a short while to adjust. When AOL and co became popular, the number of new people joining usenet turned it into an "eternal september".

Yeah, that's the origin of the term Eternal September, but we're applying it to the web, because Usenet is effectively irrelevant now (mainly due to the aforementioned phenomenon). The signal-to-noise ratio became intolerable, largely due to spam it must be said. On the web, the noise is the chittering of the masses, and it's getting louder.

Yes, the signal to noise ratio is degrading as a direct function of time, so I still ask the question: what is the point of the site?
It's not hard to find rubbish on the internet, I would much rather have a site, which plucks some of the gems from obscurity and links to those instead.

Actually, finding rubbish is always the easy part (some people call it "news"), be it on the web or in real life. The problem is always finding the gems.

Thing is, Dave, you have lots of websites sifting out the good stuff now.
There's Digg, and Reddit and all those which try to ensure the best floats to the top of the cess-pool.
I would argue that the "Mortal Kombat storys" is a gem.
