Isn't it called Grindhouse? Where'd you get the
The from?

Anyway, if Tarantino and Rodriguez fail to deliver then they
are cunts: this thing has been hyped from here to Nantucket.
If it works then it'll be "Awesome".

grindhouse is two movies in one, you know. before i'll watch
the second part, i'll break your other leg. if i still feel
like it, that is. breaking legs can be a pretty tiresome
business. and after the rodriguez part, i might not be up
for it anymore.

you think it's over hyped, really? that's odd, i haven't
heard a damn thing about it except this morning when my
relief came on and told me about it after he saw it the
night before. besides, i'd rather hear about something
being cool by word of mouth from someone i know, rather than
hearing some big corporations spew on it just cuz they wanna
see a return on their investment.

oh, and my friend said, if you got to see it, just because
it's actually two movies, don't expect them to be any
shorter like 45 minutes, cuz they're both full length films,
an hour and a half each, so just plan on being in the
theater for at least 3 hours.

I'm quite in to films and get two monthly film magazines,
both of which have featured it quite a bit recently, one of
them with a double-spread interview with Tarantino last
month: in fact, this month's Empire magazine has a poster
pull-out of the film. I'm looking forward to the fake
trailers, one of which is by Edgar Wright, dir. Shaun Of The
Dead, and one by that Hostel director.

I really *didn't* want to like this film (read: Tarantino),
but I saw it tonight with one of my best friends and it was
inexplicably enjoyable. It really was about 3+ hours long
but it was captivating throughout. This style was obviously
one that was near and dear to the directors' hearts, and
though I was a bit too young to cash in on the real thing, I
can't help but respect them for putting excruciating time,
effort, energy, and love into it and producing what was
essentially a stylistic time capsule. Sure, it may have
gone a bit overboard at times, but the end product was
brilliant. Great film.

It was certainly one of the FUNNIEST movies I have ever
seen. I can't imagine anyone enjoying this if they don't
find it funny.

it's pretty good, tarantino's was a trying a little too hard
to be cool but othwerise it was a geat film overall.

imDb users are reporting a lot of people walking out of the
cinema after Planet Terror finished: either not realising
that it was a double bill and that Death Proof was to finish
or, I suppose, because they didn't like it. Apparently quite
a number walking out of Death Proof itself - something about
being too talky, although apparently the last 30 minutes are
great.

offline jackeroffer from Aruba on 2007-04-09 08:43 [#02070712]

Death proof is most similar to Jackie Brown if i were to
compare it to any tarantino work. It has a very drawn out
ambient beginning but the climax is incredible and very
fufilling. Its also similar in the respect that its like a
conceptual cross fade between a modern young girl venturing
off alone movie into a 70's exploitation car case bad girl
revenge film. Jackie brown i see as like Foxy Brown but at
age 45, it starts out very slow very non action oriented and
as all the pieces come together its almost like a modern
retelling of a double cross exploitation movie.

That's good because Jackie Brown is the only
Tarantino-directed film that I like. Hopefully this will be
a second!

same here! i find pulp fiction, dogs and true romance kind
of fun movies but not really great films. they are more of
popcorn films for me than anything else. Kill bill 1 i
found absolutely intolerable, Kill bill 2 was much better
but still probably the worst thing he's ever done.

SO

Planet Terror or Death Proof?

I vote Death Proof... but only by a naught of a dot of a
fraction

death proof was the better film but planet terror was the
better over-the-top, playing-with-action-figures trashy
trash-trash movie.

the central car crash in death proof disturbed me quite a
bit since i pretty much never watch these types of films.

it's like, you get to hang out with these people for a
while, really get to know them, which makes the payoff all
the more sweet.

incidentally, i've never felt let down after a Tarantino
film. It's like he makes movies especially for me, tailored
to my exact taste in film. i can say that about few film
directors. Wes Anderson is the only other that comes to
mind.

yeah the crash in the middle is a stunner a brilliant
utilization of tarantino's now trademark and obligatory
multiple pov sequence...

and for the first time since Signourny in Aliens the ass
kicking that the women handed out was convincing...though
Kurt's sudden wimp attacks and panic...was a bit sudden...it
was a bit rushed... as if it missed a few steps...I guess
you can blame the length of the flick for that...
