Squarepusher interviews

Regardless of what you make of his music, what do you think
of Squarepusher's approach to interviews? I actually really
appreciate his detailed, involved, perhaps slightly verbous
resposnes to questions, and I think it makes a nice change
from how most "IDM" folk handle the press. He is
refreshingly proficient at using words, too, which always
helps. I found the interviews at Squarepusher.net a joy to
read.

its an interesting approach in that you
have someone like john coltrane who
would quip in interviews, whereas sp
projects confidence and integrity too.

i normally agree with you cs2x , but squarepusher just comes
off as very pretentious to me in his interviews. the latest
one in bass player mag was a nearly intolerable read. And on
the other hand i agree that most IDM musicians give shitty
interviews, i just dont consider Tom's approach to be a
breath of fresh air in electronic music interviews

i dont think he can *not* be that way.
hes well-educated + probably concern
ed with representing himself properly,
and to express himself most purely he
has to rely on his natural vocabulary.
he takes the piss sometimes too, ok?

;-]

Maybe because electronic music relies so much on the novelty
of new sounds that if you let too much out in interviews you
will end up with thousands of watered down copy cat artists.
Not that this isn't already happpening

I don't like the dude's demeanor when it comes to
interviews. Even if he's not spelling it outright, I can
always feel his arrogance.

Yeah, people tend to ask a lot of bullshit questions of
artists ("so where do you get your ideas??"), but I have
much more respect for someone who patiently deals with those
lame ass questions than one who acts like he's too good to
answer them.

i think autechre are the best in interviews however they
sometimes are too nice in some interview they say its
difficult not to insult detroit techno hero's according to
the music autechre are making in the sort of fuck up techno
style

well fuck detroit techno makers if they have a problem with
autechre

to?

i've got no idea what you are talking about. autechre
insulting detroit, or the other way around. no idea.

only thing i do know, is that half of the ae radio-set
consists of old-skool (detroit) techno. half of it. that's
like 15 hours, or something. sounds like an ode to me.

interview from rome or something and they tought they were
kinda insulting detroit techno makers with their music wich
i found kinda weird

but is has nothing to do with squarepusher who is really
pretentious
in interviews
