pfft, that clock has nothing to do with how many good elec.
artists we have. we don't have any good elec. artists
because the majority of people here are ignorant. and
that's just in general. i really have no sympathy left for
the rest of my fellow citizens. it's like everyone is in
denial. so when our infrastructure collapses and this
nation takes a step 200 years backwards, my smile will be 10
miles wide.

oh my bad. i thought he was... the only ones that come to
mind are small elec. based artists. icebreaker int., edit
etc... but i find prefuse and lets say something like
autechre for example to be at another level. do you know of
any others? i doubt matmos is the only good thing thats come
out the u.s.

how about the whole chicago/detroit techno/house/electro
thing?

but i wasn't thinking that much of electronica as other
fields. for example all contemporary classic music composers
that hail from nyc. it was and still is a huge influence on
electronic music (at least the interesting part).

but if you need electronica names..keith fullerton whitman
is brilliant!

i like house-techno-electro. dont get me wrong, but i was
thinking more experimental. but now that you mention it the
u.s. does have alot of good 'movie composers'. i should look
some up one of these days. i enjoy harry gregsons work
(metal gear, man on fire [although he's from england]), but
i never got around to it.

it can't get more experimental to what cage, glass, riley,
palestine, reich, conrad, and all others were/are doing.
imo.

the only one i've heard of is glass. you are an encyclopedia
of knowledge i have to say. i'm quite ignorant when it comes
to contemporary composers. i mean i know very little and it
was just cause i've heard their work in movies. for example,
armageddon... theres that one piece 'Evacuation'. that is
probably one of my fav. pieces of all time. all those other
names i'd have to start looking up. i guess i spend too much
of my time looking into ind. work, but they all usually tend
to be european. the last artist that really evoked alot of
feelings for me was vector lovers, and i'm not ashamed to
say i like his style. but seeing as i've been wanting to get
into classical music, this would be a good start.

it just s happens im interested in nyc contemporary
composers, im no encyclopedia hehe. i forgot to mention
lamonte young there, and all of them are americans..if you
like glass maybe you should check out steve reich (im
surprised you don't know him..lots of electronica artists
sampled or reworked his pieces).

also, i would be interested why you consider prefuse to be
more experimental to say jeff mills?

this style is reminiscent of Kiln. have you ever listen to
Lux Pdf? it kinda has this harmony that just keeps rising.
yes i'd say this is more experimental in the sense that it
doesn't really burrow a definitive style as prefuse (ie. hip
hop, blues).

no idea hat that is..

also, i meant the experimental issue comparing prefuse and
jeff mills..for what you said above; "i like
house-techno-electro. dont get me wrong, but i was thinking
more experimental"..

the thing is i dont consider house-electro as experimental,
as prefuse, because i suppose it's less danceable
(abstract), there isn't as many 'prefuse-like' artists as
well, and to me i find anything where you need to put in
more work than your predecessors as being more experimental.
when you listen to prefuse, it takes effort on the listeners
part to follow along, it paints a picture in your mind.
house/electro can do the same but imho less efficient in
doin so.

i see..not sure i agree though. maybe if it wasn't for
techno/house producers, prefuse would never
exist..experimental to me means doing something that hasn't
been done before..covering new ground. i don't hear that in
prefuses music personally..but maybe that has something to
do with me not liking that sort of empty music haha

in a way it is empty. i do see your point. i mean he is a
collagist basically, and this becomes even more apparent
when you get remixes from James Ruskin that are
groundbreaking. i mean but theres so many artists its hard
to say who is taking the bull by its horns, many have alot
to contribute. i believe prefuse has done his part.
(although i totally disagree with his politics :)

Sounds like techno

This has prolly been posted here before, however I'm posting
it again as it demonstrates great insight into the early
experimentation of jeff mills that tolstoyed is refering
too.

Infact anyone intrested in detroit should watch it, its
great.

Dockstader and the Forbidden planet soundtrack were better
than anything the bbc radiophonic workshop did. in my humble
opinion, and they were American as apple pie. I think
America doesn't nurture the arts as much as European
countries. Not in the white tower sense, either. Also
electronic music has always been looked down upon in the usa
for some strange reason.

it's no strange reason, it's because americans are
inherently ignorant.

otto von schirach

back to the original topic, yeah don't reproduce; you'll
just make food for the nanobots.

Countdown until self replicating nanobots: 13 years, 4
months, 12 hours, 12 minutes

Whatever beings dwell in the future will use us for fuel
like we used the ancient forests. And since time is nothing
more than actions in space, and since significant actions
are increasing exponentially, even if we are only 100 years
behind them we'll be as ancient to them as the dead trees
are to us. I can't wait until they burn me as fuel, that's
when your soul finally gets released.
