Irony

In response to comments about their unique sound,
Autechre argue that given the incredible range of tools
available to modern composers, especially in the electronic
genres, it's incomprehensible that any band should "sound
like" any other band.

nobody sounds like ep7/lp5. Those are still ahead of most
idm today. but their newer material is easier to immitate.

Yeah, those two releases are brilliant. Each track invents a
new musical style.

The problem with the wide range of tools available to modern
composers is what Douglas Coupland called "options
paralysis" - there are so many options it's impossible to
decide what to do. So most electronic musicians just give up
trying and pump the same old thin watery shit out their
manholes.

Well, it seems most enthusiast are buying up the machines
they rave about in articles. The machinedrum comes to mind

what's the date that quote is from? sometimes i think
everyone just walks around with their eyes closed, using
their imaginary feelers to make sense of the world around
them by picking up someone else's views, instead of actually
opening their own eyes to figure it out themselves. oh well
i guess that would be too hard and people would ridicule
them if they didn't agree with the already established pov.
oh no, can't suffer that horrible fate.

thanks! i heard they use blenders and refridgerators for
their melodies, and live animals (monkeys and insects
mostly) for the beats. please don't tell cygnus. we don't
need monkeys to be extinct as well. insects i do not mind.

Should the goal be actually inventing something new with
each track, though?

with an english accent
(that was a joke okay, i like americans)

never like autechre actually tho i appreciate their skill
and talent, just don't enjoy it much
you could make one really great compilation of them tho
but you lot wouldn;t be so crazy about em if they hadnt been
on same label as aphex and squarepusher and rob gordon,
likewise with BoC, which i feel similar about

btw, why are so many people trying to ripp off dilla it cant
be done

ironic by that woman alanis morrisminor, check the lyrics -
nothing in there is actually ironic, did anyone see that
program of annoying songs the other day, usa english society
came down on her like a ton of bricks for the misuse and
giving usa an even worse name when it comes to irony, but
she's canadian... ironic

new UR release is so catchy and good - buy it!
also new marguerita and weme is good too

I will agree with electronic music, but rock music and stuff
will always generally sound somewhat the same given that it
pretty much always has the same instruments. For me though,
music is more about the melody and stuff, and the harmonies
between the different instruments rather then just sounding
different. I find if a song has a nice melody and good,
interesting beat, I'll usually enjoy it regardless of what
genre it is.

Q: How much irony is there in a serious discussion about
Autechre (pronounce "ORTECKER")?

A: Ask Funkmaster.

@ funkmaster: look, 90% of the remarks i make aren't funny.
but that one post i made earlier, that was comical GENIUS.
so 90% of the time you would have been right, but not this

not to blow my own horn, but the combination of timing and

I don't know, but Aphex likes him and I know its sad to
admit but I respect his taste. If he mentions an artist I
will check them out.

Im late in tha game with Dilla.
Im not a rap guy, but I do like what I hear so far. I like
this track a lot.

LAZY_TITLE

So much rap I hear is junk. Same old preset drum machine.
Cacophonous squawking over the same old crap music. Its rare
to find a REAL rap artist.

Although this thread has started moving in a different
direction, I would like to move the attention back to
Funkmaster. Tolstoyed, I think the reason you don't remember
Funkmaster being like this was because his name is
"Funkmaster" and he always had these silly avatars like the
one he has now, so anything silly, stupid, or naive that may
be utterred by this internet personage could simply be
brushed off as "irony" or "satire". But in retrospect, he
was being serious. I don't know, maybe it is a recent thing.
